Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Mine is an SDA, allot different than your 270. (I think there is another thread for your boat BTW, just a heads up .) My pump is located in the engine compartment with a bottom discharge.

My Buddy's is a 1999 270SDA. His Macerator sits to the right of his vacuflush pump if your are standing directly in front of it, Uses the same pump and duck bills as the vacuflush pump, just sits on a much smaller tank. It discharges to a ball valve prior to going through the bottom discharge on a house pad. I know where my boat link is :smt001, I just like to float around and read other posts, we will probably be out this weekend, and if you needed a pic I could probably get you one. Just saying.

MonacoMike and BryanOnTheBay did either of you have any luck with the swim ladders? I am still having trouble finding the correct match since ours are designed to slide a few inches before extending. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that. I will get some pics, especially of the manufacturer's plate this weekend.

Are our bow rails 1" diameter? I'm pretty sure yes, but won't be by the boat for a few days to confirm, figured someone here probably knows.

Here the ladder. The manufacturer is GG Schmidt & Sons Marine Hardware, Lancaster, PA & Bradenton, FL.

Ok I have a question. recently purchased my 1994 270 sundancer and I was told that mine is a rare model since it came with twin 4.3l is this true? also if this is true how different is it, I would like to start fixing her up a bit but don't know what will fit.

Hello and thanks for your service in the Navy Swanny32. You may find more info on your boat in the "Mid 90's 270 Thread". I can't help you with the rarity of having twins in the narrow 270. I do know of two other in existence identical to yours. The "Late 90's Thread" is for the 9'2" beam which is very different in layout. Hopefully you can find what you are seeking.

thanks I was kinda lost to which thread to look in.

I have a mystery leak (aren't they all?) in the bilge far back on the starboard side. It's pretty high up and makes it look like it's almost raining inside - no apparent single source. Has anyone experienced this?

Check the bedding on the vent as well as on the holding tank waste cap.

This is the thread you are looking for.

And yes, twins are out there but not many of them. I will repost in the other thread for you and start trying to answer questions.

Engine overheating or my paranoia - help appreciated. Team, I have had my 2000 Sea Ray 270 Sundancer for about 3 years now. It has the Bravo 3 outdrive and the single 7.4 Mercruiser V-8. I have bottom paint and typically have 3-4 passengers and a cooler with a few brews on board with limited gear. I know my impeller is on season #2 and will be replaced at the end of this year. I have noticed that under full throttle my thermostat ticks up to about the width of the needle above 170 degrees (I would guess approximately 173 degrees) and seems to stay there. I vaguely recall it sitting at 170 dead on, which I thought was normal. Many of the folks around the dock seem to run at 165. I assume I have a 170 degree thermostat and it opens and holds at the 173 degree-ish temperature. Anyone with a similar set-up able to weigh in on whether this is normal, too-high, just right, ect? The lake (fresh water) that I am in starts to heat up a little this time of year. The water is probably about 75 degrees give or take.

Jakester218, not sure if this is helpful or not. Mine is a 1999 w/the same combo as yours & in 83 deg F water my temp was varying between 150-175 deg F. I found that after running for a bit, I need to idle & cool down some or it won't restart. Appears to vapor lock or something. Didn't think that was supposed to happen w/the MPI. Have you had any issues like that? Anyone else able to help out on the issue?

Hello all,
Sorry I'm new on this site & just realized I should've posted here instead of on the general discussion. Anyone have any info that can help me per below?

I've recently purchased a 99 sundancer 270 Merc 7.4 MPI w/Bravo III & am trying to get set up for the best performance to be able to cruise but am at a bit higher elevation. Most use will be at Lake Powell elev. 3600'

I have changed the gear ratio in the drive from 2.0 to I believe 2.2 & am running 22P props on the Bravo III drive.

We are usually there for family trips & am hoping to be able to run with 6 adults on board as well as fuel, water, & some gear. Is that more than I should expect from the 270 with the 9'-2" beam & the single drive even being the big block?

Seems that with this scenario, I am having to run at least 22 mph & 4000 rpm or higher to stay on plane, using trim tabs also. Boat will reach 4500-4600 rpm & doesn't appear to over rev but when I try to cruise under 4000 rpm I lose plane. Want to increase prop pitch slightly & see if this helps cruising but I'm afraid it will just negatively affect getting on plane.

Again, am I expecting too much from this boat with the single engine, or should I be looking for some other performance issues I may be experiencing?

If a little to much for the single, any thoughts on what effects (good or bad) a supercharger may do for this?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have not had issues restarting and the engine never seems to get over 173. I have bottom paint and can get it up on plane at 3800 ish RPMs with a little trim I back it down to 3500 RPMs and cruise at 28 ish MPH. The temp gauge seems to sit a little over the 170 mark. I'll be changing the impeller at the end of the season and may swap in a 160 thermostat which I may already have but a new t-stat is cheaper than a new motor. May also try to flush the engine when I pull it this year. I have googled around and I was unable to find a real consensus.
