LED causing VHF interference

Thanks for those links SKybolt. When I checked out those Lumitec lights the price made me reach out to steady myself a bit, I gotta say. The one you put on your CC are more in line with my allowance. If the Admiral ever saw an invoice where I paid a C note for a 2 inch light, I would have to make a nest in the back lot.

They are completely worth it though! Burn the receipts.

Incidentally, what precipitated this whole thread was me labeling the switches and breakers on the boat. While I was tinkering around, I had the weather on the VHF and every few minutes the Coast Guard would make a security announcement about an overturned boat offshore near here. So it was interesting. As I was checking out what each switch did so I could label it correctly, I flipped on the overhead LED helm lights while the weather was coming over the VHF. The voice transmission quit totally with only a little background static coming through. My first thought was that the automated voice machine at the Coast Guard had a hiccup but I flipped the light off and the voice came back instantly. Flipped LEDs back on....just static....LED off.....voice right back.
I mention this because I am sure I am not the only person with outdated LEDs on their boat.

It looks like it uses the factory wiring? At least for the ones with the switches at the helm.

I didn’t look closely at the lights that you linked to. I have the rgb lights and the poco module would let you pick a color and a brightness without cycling through the colors with the toggle switch. You can assign different functions to your factory switches. Just a little more convenience I guess.

The Lumitec lighting is well worth the money, they are simply the best lighting solution out there, IMO. The TH Marines lights are good and won't create any noise, my VHF works the same with these on as it does with them off. For what it is worth I put the TH Marine on my CC because of the cost as well. It's not a showy bar hopping boat. The bigger boat only gets Lumitec.
