I would like to install an LED TV on the bulkhead where the 22" is normally installed from the factory. Has anyone done this? Can you recommend a size, brand, etc. of TV? Would you have pictures to share? Thanks in advance!

Do a search. There are a number of old threads that will help you...

I mounted a Sony 32" HD...had to build my own mount to ensure rigidness. Will post some pics by Monday...traveling now. Very nice size for viewing from the berth.

Scott, I am considering the exact same thing. Did you have the 23" LG factory set? It is 23.5" wide by 17 3/8"'high. If so what was the precise LG model you purchase?

Is there anyway to separate the 2 main TVs in the galley so that you can run them individually without the remote running both all the time.

Thanks Gerald

Thanks Scott for model number but a couple more questions. First where are the controls for that TV, right hand side because that's where my hand opening compared to yours on the bottom. Second that set is wider than my opening, so I am assuming it fits inside fine. Finally, how is the set attached to the mounting bracket?

BTW - Good luck this week with your surgery!

Scott,
Bought your TV at Best Buy this afternoon and got them to meet an Amazon.com price that was $60 less. I also got a 15" TV to replace the one by the bed. Three questions for you. First, the new TV has a DC adaptor that needs to be plugged into the AC cord for the old TV. Did you tuck it in under the enclosure since there appears to be more than enough room? Second, my old LG TV had two sets of composite RCA video connections. I know one has to be for the AC DVD player. I am guessing the other is for the 2nd 12V DC DVD player but not sure. Does your boat have 2 DVD players like mine or only one since there is only one set of composite jacks on the new TV. Finally, how did you manage to screw in the two screws to the bottom of the bracket after you slide the new TV on?

Scott, thanks for the tips especially the 90 degree jacks. However my question about the screws was not removing them but reinstalling them. I was thinking a magnetic tool to get them started and then the longer driver.

...the electrical outlet in the surround...

My 320 has no outliet in the surround so I was not able to switch out the power cord for the 26" LED set with that of the old set which had a round connections rather than normal prong type connections. Couple that with the rails were too close even with right angle connectors to slide the TV onto the mount from the top. I aborted the mission and returned the LG set back to Best Buy and will search some more for one that will both fit into the surround and has the right type of power plug. I also found that Sea Ray at the factory mounted the cross rail too high that the top of the surround screws into so the screws were below it instead of in it. Hopefully I will have better success with the 15" TV by the island berth which I'll tackle this week.

I put in an LG 26 inch, LED-LCD Television. Wonderful improvement. This was the largest I could get without having to do major surgery to the surround. I did have to raise the mount on the bulkhead about 3 inches to make it work.

Notice it is now enclosed in the surround, rather than outside of it as the 23 inch set was. The reason for this was the thin television, (about an inch thick) fit more securely within the surround than outside of it. It is rock solid, and I was able to reuse all the mounts and foam pads from the original one.

Great install but wow... doesn't that thing get hot?!!

Scott, I just noticed that you don't have the screw head covers on the top two screws of the surround like mine. Is this yet another difference in factory installs?

No, when I took that picture, I was still in the process of tweaking the setup, so I didn't re-install then until a week or two after the installation. (Little tip from 'ol uncle larry)

I was able to use the right angle connectors you recommended on my 15" TV that I installed today. The 15" Dynex just fit into the opening and I didn't have to change anything and just plugged the cord into the open outlet in the back of the enclosure. Since I am inside a storage building in the boondocks, I couldn't get an off-the-air signal on the Glomex antenna to test the tuner but the DVD works fine.

I found a 26" Westinghouse LED TV at Costco that has the same power cord configuration as the old LG but the mounting bracket holes are 200x100 instead of the 100x100 that fit the factory mounting bracket. If I can find an adapter or 200x100 mounting bracket that is like the factory one I'll buy it.

Bob,

When I changed to a 32" HDTV for the cockpit I got a wall mounting bracket and used this to interface with the SeaRay bracket since this is the smaller mounting grid (the TV has a 200mm grid, the SeaRay has a 100mm grid). The wall mount has all the holes for the various grid sizes for the TV and I just drilled the wall mount (wall side) to fit to the SeaRay mount at 100mm square.

Thanks for the suggetions but I think the one below would work since it is the same low profile as the Sea Ray factory bracket.

However, I decide since the only reason I need to replace the LG 23" TV is if I want to get off-air signals, I will wait until I get to the new marina next Spring. If I can get a broadcast using the Glomex antenna on the 15" TV then I will likely replace it. If not then the marina provides an analog cable feed that will work with all the TVs.

I'm about to get serious with this and went to the boat today.:smt038 After having a quick look, I figured I better head back here and ask some of the experts before I regret it.

Currently there is no TV in the area where they normally put 23" screen. This may sound basic, but what is the best way to remove the "panel" so I can access the area behind? Or don't I? I noticed the rail below for the privacy curtain had several screws, looked underneath the helm and thought, oh if I mess this up the admiral will throw me in the drink. Thanks as always for any help!

Thanks Scott. Do you know if it is possible to run the wires behind instead of through the fake wood bulkhead? In my brief look today it seems the locker at the helm is pretty tight. My intent is to install a 32" LED and have a Playstation 3 for the Blu-ray. I have seen pictures of the tv mounted with the Playstation above the TV in the part that extends out with the lights. Thanks again very much.

I don't know. The rear bulkhead that you would be mounting the TV to is on the other side of the bulkhead that is on the cockpit, so there are no hidden spaces behind. If you drilled completely through it, you would be able to see the drill bit in the compartment below the helm, assuming you didn't drill through the electrical distribution box.

You might be able to run the power up to the ceiling, and then across to the electrical panel, but I've never removed that panel, so I can't offer any assistance there.

Odds are against it, but have you checked with SR to see if the surround panel is still available? If you could purchase the shroud, that would make your life a lot easier.

Is it easy to get the vinyl / ultra leather material so he could make his own shroud? Doesn't seem like too big of a project...

Ahh, a little rounded router bit with a bearing on it should do the trick... then he could take a bunch of pictures for us. It is quiet around here without the 9-fingered carpenter...

My 320 has no outliet in the surround so I was not able to switch out the power cord for the 26" LED set with that of the old set which had a round connections rather than normal prong type connections...

Maybe another option would be to cut the old connector off, and solder the new connector to the wire.
