Lofrans progress 1 finger kit

Did you reach Sari yesterday . I went to see her but she was swamped with work I'll stop in today again and see her .

I did reach her. A very nice person. She realized she did not have a part for the Progress 1 sorry to say. She did offer to check some of her other sources to help me locate the part which was kind of her. I also contacted Waveinn in Spain to see if they had any P1 Finger kits left. I have not heard back from them yet.

Thanks for your help HT, much appreciated.

Guys, parts are coming back from anodizer today and my buddy will have a "kit" available in the next day or two for about $40. It will have a new pressure finger, bolt and washer. The kit along with a new spring from IMTRA will keep you from fouling the rode to chain splice when retrieving the anchor. I have tested on my boat and it works great. I'll post a picture and contact info as soon as I get it.

I am interested too. Please let me know when they are available.

I will buy two of them....not greedy, just sometimes things go wrong....or "stuff happens" as they say. Thanks for your work on this and would be happy to pour you a drink at the dock if you are ever down my way....near Clearwater Beach.

Ok guys, here is the info I just got from Mike Dixon at Dixon Precision Enterprises. He is pricing the kit at $60 and it includes a wide button head cap bolt to spread pressure across the finger and prevent snapping as well as a new finger that he copied from my original Lofrans part. dixonprecision@gmail.com is the contact email and paypai address. His phone number is 770-789-7411. If you need any other parts replicated, contact him and I will see if I can help find the part to use as a template. Pretty cool to resurrect this from the dead and save a perfectly good windlass model.

Cocktail Time...is there a spring in there too to provide tension?

Jaybeaux, yes, I just purchased two of the springs from Imtra along with the shaft (and nuts/washers) that the finger rides on. The part I purchased is https://www.imtra.com/48e7f632-a8b8-4402-acff-336813984faf/anchoring-all-detail.htm. Now,. I will be able to replace all of the hardware for that entire part of the winch.

If you order the post(mounting stud) that the finger rides on, make sure you tell him the year of your windlass, take a picture or just check to see if there is a set-screw on the back of the port-side of the winch. This set-screw holds the shaft that the finger rides on. I have a 2002 380 DA and the Imtra rep told me that was the changeover year for the way the mounting stud connects to the base. I do not have the set-screw, mine has threads that go into the base of the winch.

A simple call to Imtra will take care of everything. They are really fine folk there and very knowledgeable. Good luck!

Edit:
Here are the parts I purchased from Imtra for my P1:

2 LWPPF007 Spring for Dorado, Marlin, Progress 1/2 for 8mm threaded stud #238 $20.50 $41.00

1 LWPPF003A Mounting Stud, modified version for old base tofit new finger, M8x45, #2003 $39.00 $39.00

1 LWPCP006 Washer M8 Uni 6592, #226 $0.60 $0.60

1 LWPPF004 Cap nut self locking M8 UNI 5722, #242b $5.75 $5.75

Now I need to order the fingers.

Guys, here is a tip, skip buying the stud and nut from IMTRA and just buy a M8x40 bolt, it will fit perfectly and is about $2. The spring and finger are the hard parts to find.

That's why I am buying him the drinks..... in the end, it saves me money, even if he drinks the good stuff. ;)

Now I just have to get him down here.

Vince, I'll be down there on Anna Maria Island in a couple weeks. How's the red tide issue? and you are in luck, I drink whatever the Captain is pouring!

Anna Maria was had some levels of RT last I checked....most points south of the bay had some level of it. Here is a map: http://myfwc.com/media/4482947/swmap0829.pdf that has the concentration readings along the Suncoast, but things could change in a couple weeks. I am at the northern end of Pinellas county and we are Blessed with grey dots on the map, which means "not present".

I am only 5 minutes from the boat and retired, so my schedule is fairly flexible if you find yourself up this way.

Have a safe trip

I forget to mention, I think Anna Maria Island is in Manatee County for purposes of the map. There should be a new map coming out soon. You can also reference: https://www.amisun.com/2018/08/25/red-tide-update/

I spoke with Mike Dixon yesterday. He was very helpful and seemed to be a nice guy to deal with. I placed my order with him and asked him to send my package priority mail. I probably won't have it on until late next week though. I will post my findings.

I often have issues when I retrieve the anchor. Specifically, when I go to retrieve the anchor it gets bound up in the winch. I haven’t had the winch slip on the rope, but for some reason it just gets jammed up where the rope and change meet. I’ve had to remove the top cover to the unit to get it sorted.

Could this be the solution to my issue, or is this more for when the finger it’s putting enough tension on the rope and the rope slips on the winch.

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon Suss.

It very well could be the finger is not putting enough tension, or too much tension.
I am in the process of replacing the spring that holds the tension on the finger. I purchased some extra Hardware including the finger just in case the spring wasn't the problem.

It could also be where the rode joins the chain is wearing out causing it to bind up at that point. There are some other folks on this thread who have more experience with this winch who will most likely join in with some help for you.

Good luck getting it sorted out. I'm sure you'll find the help you need here.

That’s for the feedback latitude adjustment.

also check the chain-rope splice. Mine was getting pretty ragged and the gypsy would just spin at the joint. Of course it probably didn't help that my finger was nearly worn away. In short it could be a combination of things. Ragged splice, weak spring, worn finger, can all play a part.

I ultimately just went with all chain rode which don't care nuthin' bout no finger.

Going with chain solves that problem and also holds the bottom much better. I thought about going with chain, but I do some bottom fishing out in the Gulf of Mexico in about 80 to 90 feet of water. That would require around 600 feet. or so priced around 4 to 6 bucks a foot.
Price and weight might be an issue for me.

I would imagine the 7 to 1 scope changes when using all chain compared to using my existing rode as my main source for holding bottom?

Yeah. you can definitely shorten the scope a bit. I usually go about 5:1. But then, I'm not anchoring in 90' either. more like 20 - 30, so I only carry 150'. Still, if you're fishing out in open water, even 5:1 may not be necessary, in calm conditions. I just wouldn't want short scope if I were overnighting.

I am planning to go to all chain but in the meantime i just put some pressure on the finger when the chain/rode splice comes through and it works. Maybe not recommended do to the danger and only good from the foot pedals but it works for me and I have 9 other fingers if something goes wrong.
