Looking for a GPS/Chartplotter for my new/old boat.
Probably will need to go with a unit that attaches with stand as I do not think I have enough flat area on dash to surface mount.
Will need some suggestions on model of unit to buy.

Hey Daniel,

Not sure if it would have a big enough screen for you, but I love my Garmin GPSMAP 276C  Also works great in the car.

I am partial to Furuno equipment.........

I have no idea about the panel space you have available, but I'd look at the GP 1850 or smaller GP 1650 which are stand alone entry level plotters that will not network with radar etc. You can, however, interface thru NMEA 0183 cabling to an autopilot, radar, VHF etc. that will accept the NMEA input.

Garmin is coming out with a new line in March. I am waiting for the new 400 series (about $600) to come out.

I've got a Navman GPS/chartplotter that mounts on a stand and has the integrated antenna. I've also got the CMAP chip for the Chesapeake. I think the model number of the unit is 5100i. Anyway, if you're interested I'll sell it for a good price. It came off my old boat and I saw no point in leaving it as it wouldn't increase the trade value any. The display is very nice and the unit has always worked flawlessly.

Larry Thank you for the post.Rest of the guys thanks for the suggestions.
Helm space is very limited and I really did not want a lot of 'stuff' sitting up on top of the actual instrument pod. I ended up with a Standard Horizon CP180 that I have the option of surface mounting or stand mounting.
Will be working on that and Bennett Auto Tab Controls this weekend.
Boy am I glad I popped for heated storage this year. Especially as it is 3 degrees here this morning.

Hi Dan,

The 180 looks like a great unit. I just read up on it. Congrats.

I envy you the heated storage. I guess I'll just have to build that onto the garage this summer/fall.

Take care in the cold. Supposed to be 10 below this weekend here, before the windchill.

GO BEARS! :smt038

Hey Eric
I've got my work cut out for me this weekend
Mailbox has been full all week
GPS came in
Auto Tab Controls are here
New Zincs came this morning
And re-covered aft cockpit seat came this afternoon
Just left West Marine about $500 lighter in the checkbook
And Home Depot $100 lighter

I'm curious. If you don't mind me asking, how expensive is the seat recovering?

Chazroo
My aft cockpit seat was 2 pieces appox 60" wide
top was a back with a bolster top all white
Seat was white with Sea Ray Stipes included
1 Taupe and one green
Shop could not mimic heat seam so did a 'tuck and roll'
Total cost $600
I uninstalled and will reinstall
Will post pictures before and after at Virtuat Marina tomorrow or Monday
Cushions are at home and will reinstall in spring

Dan,
Thanks for the info. Sounds like you got a good deal. We're not ready for replacements yet but I can see it happening towards the end of the year.

Chazaroo

I forgot to mention that the price also included almost a complete rebuild of the structure. All new woodbacks etc.
Where are you located?
Dan
