I have a 2003 WE with a 5.0 mercruiser and tac was only reading 3700 RPM full throttle, had a tune up plugs /cap/rotor misc stuff and tac now only reads 4000 rpm, should be 4400/4800. Please reply with thoughts. Thanks

How long have you owned it?
Has the boat ever hit the 4400-4800 rpm?
How many hours on the motor?
It’s late in the season, how is the bottom? It doesn’t take much growth or a cluster of barnacles to wreak havoc.
Does the throttle plate open fully when you push the lever to WOT?
Have you had a compression test?
Fuel pressure test?
Was the drive replaced with the same gear ratio?
Is the prop in good shape?
Is it the correct pitch?
