    Saw this on a newsfeed.

Last time I went into Marco Island the channel that had to followed was a series of zig zags around numerous sand bars (similar to St. Augustine). That was 4-5 years ago, may be totally different now.

Just a wild guess on my part, looks like this boat tried to go straight in. The temporary markers that guides the channel are small and hard to see in less than ideal conditions.

I wonder, did he hit and slide over a sandbar enough to rip the undercarriage off?

Wow, the entire channel is marked as “obtain local knowledge”, not sure if this was in the maps before or after the accident... the pink border (the channel) is tagged with the caution area warning on the left...

I remember calling the marina I was headed to and they gave me some insights. At that time the temporary markers were good, went slow didn't have any problems. This was on the 47DB we had previously, have not taken current boat in.

    I thought the same thing.

Pod or strut/shaft loss maybe made a big enough hole.

Why is the transition bouy at the mouth of the inlet?

No real damage to bottom - a "soft" grounding - Pumps couldn't keep up with with water coming over the transom - after 10hrs of trying, the engines swamped

This is hearsay, but the story is boat US would not deploy pumps until the CG arrived on scene.....the boats crash pumps/bilge pumps couldnt keep up

Which reminds me, I used to carry a high flow pump with 12foot leads that could be clamped onto any available battery, with a 4 foot hose (smaller boat, probably would need a 12 foot hose now). My theory was, if something like that happened, I would have a better chance at keeping up, or if something was happening to others I could lend a hand. I should get one of those again. Of course, pretty sure a small hand held would not work on a large boat like that, but should help out on my 320 if needed.

I know this has been discussed somewhere here before, but your engines water pump (assuming it will run) can act as a large bilge pump
