When you leave the marina- where do you go-never been to Lake Michigan but sure hear a lot about boating and the short season-Islands or coves? Lake Mead Nevada is where we boat for the last 12 years-Temple Bar Marina-a little slice of heaven-sure would like to hear what a typical 3 or 4 nights is like on Southern Lake Michigan-

This has been the most obscenely windy and cool June I can recall. I haven't hit Lake Michigan yet and my boat has been in the water since mid April. I surely do hope we turn the corner next weekend for the fourth. The clock is ticking....

We primarily cruise out and float in deep water, run up the coast to any one of a number of different ports for dinner or a weekend, raft off at one of our incredible beaches or take long trips across the lake or up north. While out west you have beautiful mountains, we have a rugged glacier cut lake and shoreline that can be rough and rocky or sandy. Our old growth trees over ancient dunes are incredible to see. Sleeping bear dunes has 200 foot dunes along lake Michigan. Our Lelenau peninsula is great for wine tasting and great food. We dont have a lot of coves but there are some. Mostly we have rivers that are accessible by large boat. Tired of the country, you can buzz across to Chicago for the weekend. I love boating in Michigan

Sounds beautiful-what a shore line-the different ports-you been cruising Lake Michigan a long time? How long does take to get to Chicago in your boat? After getting out my trusty Atlas I see your not too far from Grand Rapids- a friend of mine is EVP of SWITCH-the company bought the Steelcase building - Data storage is the business - he is always talking about the Lake and the boating stories being shared -the size of the waves -the storms- and of course the one of a kind days we all experience cruising on our boats- 523 miles of shore line at Lake Mead- Hoover Dam is about 75 miles round trip on the water from Temple Bar- Summer storm weather is upon us now-112 temp and 20 minute thunderstorms-Strange Weather indeed!

We boat on the Ohio river near Pittsburgh but didn't get out all weekend due to debris and current/winds. Today our dock neighbor went out in his 26' BR and said there were 2-3'ers out there which is almost unheard of in our area. There were pretty big 'logs' floating around and I knew having a finger slip would be very hard to get back in so decided to just hang out at the marina. Today was beautiful weather too. Hope it is cleared up by next weekend

It has been a very strange June weather. It feels like fall. My understanding is Canada has decided to send us a huge trough of cold air. The big lake today will be 8 footers. The ocean guys hear that and just sniff in derision. What makes ours unique is wave frequency. 8 foot waves with a 6 second frequency will beat you to death. We are fortunate here in South Haven as well as many other ports. There are bars and restaurants along the river with dinghy docks. On bad lake days we simply use our dinghys to boat on the river

Chicago is about 3.5 hours away (65-70 miles)

Living the dream-on another post you made -I think your going to have to replace with all new switches that glue will be a chore to remove -have a great and safe summer -look forward to hearing about some trips and adventures!

I had a feeling someone was going to say that about the switches.....ugg
