Hi All,

I am still in the hunt. Before I pull the cord on a much more expensive mid 80s Tiara 2700 with dual Crusaders (or an even more expensive Albie), I may have happened upon a well maintained mid 80s AJ 255, powered by a single Merc 330/TRS setup.

I know eventually I will want to swap the TRS for a Bravo 3 (and that will be part of my negotiation)...but that's an investment down the line. For the shorter term, does anyone have a 255/Merc 330/TRS combo, and if so, what are your fuel burn numbers?

I want a single screw setup (ease of maintenance) but need some decent fuel numbers to cruise the rough afternoon swell that comes up along the Northeast coast...hence the single screw AJ.

TIA

Not sure what TRS stands for.

I have the 268 with 454 Alpha and 8-1/2 beam, with 3/4 tank of fuel, water and gear, I weigh in at 9300 lbs (scale weight). The 255 is a 10 beam but but the amount of hull in the water is probably pretty close to mine and you may be a little lighter.

Cruising I'm a little better than 1.5 miles per gallon very rough numbers. My boat spends more time at trolling speeds than cruising so it's hard to nail it down, but that should be pretty close.

Beware of buying anything with a TR/TRS drive. They were good drives for the day but they haven't been made in 25+ years and part availability is poor. A Bravo retrofit is a chore; Konrad makes a direct fit replacement.
