Video from our launch ramp in northern Illinois yesterday as a small seiche rolled through. Source video isn't mine.

Photo is the same location tonight. Looks like the water came up about a foot and a half yesterday, maybe a little more.

If the water stays this high we're going to have to end up with some kind of mini-tsunami warning system!

I had to google "seiche"

I'm glad we are on floating docks, but the current coming through Sturgeon Bay is pretty quick right now. Feels like I'm on a river.

We are on Trail Creek across the lake in Michigan City, IN, and on Friday, the water started rushing out of the creek into the Lake, so fast it seemed like a river. After 5 minutes it settled, then reversed course. It totally freaked me out, no way I could have docked in that current, was glad we were tied up. I asked the Marina the next day and they though it had to do with a large storm up North over the lake. Wil try to get video next time.

We had one several years ago. The level changed by feet, plural. Screwed up all of the floating docs. They came off the pilings. Where twisted like an "S". Full of boats. It was quite a "disaster."

Yep, I had to move from "L" dock to "E" dock while they fixed em.

Here on Lake Erie we get seiches quite frequently. Happens when we have strong sustained SW or NE winds. We can have a water level difference of 6 feet or more from the western end of the lake to Buffalo.
