motor mount

I have a Seville 19 bow rider and I noticed that on one side the bolts that hold the motor mount to the hull appear to be loose. They are an inch above the mount, while on the other side the are flush with the mounting bracket and tight.
I tried to tighten the bolts that are sticking up but they don't seem to tighten. I can't see how they are mounted to the hull as where they are bolted down is an enclosed area.
I am looking for a diagram to see how the motor mount bracket is bolted to the hull. Or are they just lag bolts screwed to the fiberglass?

My motor is a Mercruiser 4.3L 175 V6.

Thanks.

Ricky

Likely lag screws into the stringer. Sounds like you may have a rotten stringer to deal with.

remove the bolt/lag and look at it . If lags the stringers are rotted and the motor is "torquing over" Depending on the extent you may need to emove the motor, remove the fiberglass top of the stringer area, remove all the rotted wood, replace the wood and reglass the top of the stringer

You didn't mention the year of your boat, but since you said "Seville", we know it's an older one. Back then, the stringers were wood. The motor mount lags are just screwed in. Eat some more spinnach. And, definitely check for rot. This is a possible explanation for why it's so hard to turn... the stringer has gotten water in (motor mounts should be checked every so often), wood has softened, the lags backed out, the motor mount shifted slightly and jammed against the screws.

When you're done, remove the drive and adjust the alignment.

FYI, if you're not comfortable with this and/or don't have the knowledge or tools to do this - it's not a big job for a shop. The only "won't know till we get in there" part, though, is if/how much the stringer is actually rotten. We'll have to wait and see on that and what fix would be. Don't forget the other side.

The bases for the engine mounts in ours were some kind of 2x6 hardwood laid flat with a piece of 3/4" plywood over that. They were fit into the notched out stringers and glassed over. There was also a piece of 3/4 plywood used as a spacer under the mounts that I am sure didn't help with keeping the moisture out. Floatation filled the void between the hardwood and the hull. That was it. No screws, just staples. They didn't look like much, however did support the v8 without any alignment issues for close to 40 years.

Thanks for the comments. Kind of what I expected. Suprisingly the right side is tight.
