Want to mount a flag out of the way and was thinking to have it halfway up my vhf antenna would be nice, anyone do this? What clips? Photos? Thanks

Generally not a good idea to attach anything to your antenna. You don’t want to interfere with the radio signals. Also it adds a lot of stress to the antenna when under way, shortening the life of it unnecessarily. It’s an antenna, not a flag pole.

I use tie wraps, and black tape at top to stop it from sliding down. I also use a fishing weight at bottom to keep it from wrapping up around the top.

In light wind conditions and depending on the size of the flag, mounting on the VHF is just fine with good tie wraps. Be sure that the flag wont flap on other items on the arch when the wind shifts. They tend to foul or leave scuff marks on ray domes, satellite domes and anti bird devices.

When we are in US we put a small US flag on one antenna using tie straps. Been doing it for years. Put a wrap of black tape as a stop point so the tie straps will not slip on the antenna.

When in Canadian waters I attach a small Canadian courtesy flag with zip ties on my radio antenna without any ill effects...

I use ty wraps with the mounting holes, then use key rings to join the flag to the ty wrap holes.

I see some that just put the ty wrap through the mounting holes and around the antenna

has no affect on the use/range of my marine radio, works great with or without flags

Use 4 nylon zip ties. Two go on the antenna with enough slack to allow the ties that go through the flag islets to come back through the zip ties on the antenna. Once secure, leave loops on the flag ties long enough to allow the flag to "fly". Tighten the zip ties on the antenna snug enough so their position does not change. I used to wrap a couple of turns of white electrical tape areound the antenna to protect its finish from chaffing.

We have mini r/w/b wind socks on tops of our antennas. Been doing this for many years. Zip tie with eyelets at top pulled tight. Then use just clip the wind socks to them. VHF doesn't seem to be affected, can still talk to all the same marinas as I did with out them.
