Hi CSR,

It was suggested to me by another member to keep a log here of things I do to my boat.

Great idea, here we go.........

In my humble opinion, any vessel over 24-6 feet with deck rails is a candidate for fender racks. Mine had none and I knew I wanted them.
Found a sweet deal on a used set sized for my fenders and immediately threw away the universal, loose fitting SS mounting straps they come with.
I love these rubber cushioned clamps to secure various hoses etc on boat, bike and auto projects.
Used 3 clamps per side with new SS fasteners and after a couple minutes of fiddling with fitment and placement, they were ready to be snugged up.
Look great, rock solid with no marring or rattling.

Then it was cocktail time.

Thank you so much. We are headed to West Marine this week with our bumpers to ensure that we get the best size.

You're welcome.

Next up, the Bow Pulpit

The exterior teak on my boat has what appears to be a few coats of spar varnish protecting it and is in pretty decent shape except for the bow pulpit. It has some top side cracking and blistering with black staining underneath, I’d guess some form of nautical mold / mildew. I’m no craftsman but took wood shop back in the day and retained most of it so we’re gonna have a go at making it look better and last longer. Nothing more. I also have everything to install an anchor winch so I am going to modify my pulpit with a bow roller also and see if time allows to get the winch installed before the season starts.

Here’s the scruffy pulpit before resto and the ss roller I intend to use. Did my homework and I really hope it fits.

I sanded the top down and just roughed up the bottom as that was in good enough shape for my likings and the only thing that sees that is spiders..... Eff them.

The two middle deck fasteners for the roller needed a fastening point so I repurposed the two rails I cut out with a screw 'n glue.

The first fitment.
Was happy it all came together and looked right on and off the boat as this is my first venture into roller and windlass install. Learning can be painful $ometime$.

I also repaired a crack and a couple gaps that it had. I didn’t want to completely disassemble this so went with what worked. You can see where the underside brace will cover my hillbilly fix, drill, countersunk and glued. The slight bow curve wanted to open up a couple gaps so I glued and clamped it all together while mounted to hull.

Started laying on the varnish and ended up giving it ~10 coats cuz it just got more gorgeous every time....sand.....coat....sand....coat.....etc.

This is at about coat 5 which is already 3 more than I though I would do....

The final product.

Just need to clean up the pitted spot light base and re-install everything.

Hope to get the holes in anchor locker hatch cut and have the Lewmar winch installed before I float it. Been a brutal winter.
