Ran the boat from Newport to Mystic on Saturday - took longer than normal to get on plane and more throttle to stay there.....by Point Judith starboard motor was loosing power and the boat came off plane - motored the rest of the way under 2k rpm - gauges were fine and no funny noises - got to home port and removed plugs - 6 out of 8 were melted, heavily fouled or otherwise destroyed with water exiting at least 1 cylinder - I have a fresh set of heads and a shortblock that can be cleaned up and re-ringed but will need to find the time and cash to pull it all together - going to approach the marina about trading my slip for on land storage and labor/crane for the swap.....really hope they go for it as we are not "condo" style boaters, we like to use it and not stay at the docks.

That sucks :(
Best of luck with getting it taken care of.
Any ideas as to what happened yet?

WOW that is a bummer for sure. I hope you can get everything worked out...

That sucks. I feel your pain.

Sorry about you luck... hope all turns out OK.

Sorry to hear Mike, hope you get it sorted quickly and affordably. It seems Mystic is the spot for rebuilds these days. Let me know if there is any thing we can do (run a part up to you etc)

Cause???? Lean condition? melted plugs. Find out what caused it before you swap all the ignition and fuel supply to a new motor or you might be doing it again.

brutal man sorry to hear. this is the stuff of nightmares for all of us (besides the sinking nightmare of course)

Definitely going to go through the fuel system, have the injectors cleaned and open up the CF3 again. I will also have the ecm checked too - will have a mercruiser shop set up the ignition system as it requires a special scanner to phase the dist to the crank trigger

Yep, melted plugs is either a lean condition or detonation.

Thanks Dean - bringing spare shortblock to the machine shop this week - he promised me a quick turn around - once the marina is done splashing boats and taking care of customer problems I should have the rebuilt motor "dressed" and ready to swap - ancillary stuff like cleaning the bilge and having the bellows, gimble, steering pins, etc done will undoubtedly up the cost and slow things down though

Mike, that's a fear that every boat has. It just happened to be your day to receive Neptune's wrath.

I hope it all works out for you to not cost an arm and a leg.

how many hours? sorry about the issue

Oh man that's rough. So sorry to hear this. Hope you get back in the water sooner than expected.
