Nautical gift idea

I have a friend who is retiring. He has recently purchased a sailboat (we won't hold it against him). I'm thinking of purchasing a sextant as a gift however I can't decide on which one to buy and from where. I would like it to be a bit of a show piece but also functional. The ones I've found on amazon have reviews which are on both ends of the spectrum. Any recommendations as to where i can pick one up that is functional and of good quality?

Dean, if he's interested in learning how to use a sextant for celestial navigation (some sailors enter that class of racing), and he's in New England, maybe sign them up with a gift certificate to a class at Mystic Seaport?
