Hi Everyone. First time boat owner and new member to the board. I have wanted a boat for a long time, and a few weeks ago I went out with a friend on a small older boat on Lake Washington and thought, "I really should have a boat". Few weeks later, I bought a 2009 Sundancer 240 in great condition. Only had about 50 hours on it, and still covered by factory warranty for about 6 more months (was a boat show boat for local dealer). I'm extremely excited about it. Plan to put it in Lake Washington on Thursday.

About Me: Co-own a small law firm that advises internet and technology companies. I enjoy college football (Washington and Michigan - alumn of both), guns (just picked up an Ed Brown Kobra Carry - woot), golf, and now boating.

Great looking boat, I am sure you will enjoy it. Where are you located?

Welcome to CSR

Welcome aboard and welcome to boating. Your life just got better!

Welcome, that's a good looking boat. Take her out and go play, be safe

Welcome to CSR... you should fit in just fine!

Welcome get your new boat out and enjoy. When you get tired of the lakes bring it out to the sound you'll be amazed at how many places you can now see from a new perspective. We're just getting ready to go out to do some fishing and crabbing in the south sound area 11.

Welcome to CSR. It's great to have another "GO BLUE" guy on here!

Oh, By the way, we like to see pics of you and your family USING the boat, not just with it sitting on the trailer!

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

I live a few blocks away from South Lake Washington (Lakeridge neighborhood, south of Seward Park). I'm mooring the boat in South Lake Union for now. Eventually, hope to get a slip closer to me, but South Lake Union is a nice spot because of its proximity to the Sound. We shall see. Taking boat out later today!

Welcome! Lots of info here and we like lots of pics too. Don't take anything here personally and CSR will save you money, so pony up and become at least a silver sponsor and buy a burgy.....

Oh and don't mention honda generators or pet pot belly pigs (Well KoJac is our CSR mascott) without reading other posts....:wow:

Looks like a great setup up you have there! Welcome to CSR - and more importantly, boating!

Welcome! Great starter boat! One word of caution-BOATING IS CONTAGIOUS! Look at my signature and you will see that I started with virtually the same boat as you....
You will love everyone on this board! Great advice! I do recommend signing up as a member for the rather inexpensive cost vs benefit! Enjoy what remains of our Summer here in the Northwest!

It's all good except for the "Husky" part - we are a house divided: Cougars and Huskies

So I had my inaugural voyage today. An overcast day today, but no rain and a few pro-longed sun breaks. It was a GREAT time, but also fairly stressful as it was the first time operating a boat "on my own." Thankfully, my girlfriend's father came along; and he is an experienced boat owner.

I dropped in Coulan Park in Renton, WA into Lake Washington. Almost had a mishap after boat was in water as I was totally befuddled by reverse and the delayed reaction to steering. Thankfully, it was a slow boating day and I didn't have 1000 people laughing at me.

Got under way and headed to South Lake union. Boat runs perfectly, but again, another mistake, I didn't have my propeller fully down. We docked at Ivars restaurant to get a bite to eat (I did a good job docking it), but then I noticed the propeller issue. Problem fixed!

Gassed her up (first time I ever paid $300 for a tank of gas lol) and headed back to the drop spot. Our trainer (GF's dad) decided that we should manually pull the boat onto the trailer with ropes, as he thought I had learned enough for the day. It went ok, but still not super smooth.

Anyways, a nice 6 hour day on the water. Was great fun, but I'm exhausted. Practice makes perfect!

Welcome aboard CSR & congrats on the new boat. Don't worry about the stress on day one. It sounds like you did a fine job! It also gets easier each time. It's nice that you have an experienced boater to help you along! Enjoy!!

Welcome!

I went through exactly the same thing your doing a couple years ago. Started out with a 24' boat, have a 30' boat now and my wife wants a bigger boat ever since we got back from the Gulf and San Juan islands a few weeks ago.

Relax, your first day is a lot better than mine was. I hit a boat coming into the marina :smt009 with my brand new boat. You will get the hang of it, but remember it takes time so get out and use it every chance you get

BTW, go Wolf Pack!

Husky, Want to get better, faster?

All it takes is practice. The more you practice the faster you will learn. Don't worry about how many people are watching because that just makes your stress level skyrocket. Don't worry about "looking good" as you launch and recover your boat, that will come with time.

I'd suggest developing a mental checklist of what to do (a) before you launch the boat, (b) how you launch the boat, (c) when you put the boat back on the trailer, and (d) as you're getting it ready to hit the road. If you do those things the same way EVERY TIME you take the boat out you'll quickly become more comfortable with them, and that will lead to a less stressful day on the water.

Oh, one last thing......where are the pictures of you guys using the boat?????

Welcome and congratulations on the new ride....

+1 on all the above we hadn't had a boat in over 30 years I was a nervous wreck coming into the docks knowing everyone was watching (all in my head) after that I went out several days in calm and windy conditions to just practice at a local dock this really helped to find the pivot point and how the boat reacts in reverse be patient it just takes practice. I did make a checklist of things needed to do before going out and returning this made remembering everything much is easier till it became routine like last night leaving the marina I forgot to turn off the batteries. All those people watching you went through the same things you are.
