I just took on a huge project in a free 78 SeaRay SRV 200 cuddy cabin. Needs a complete overhaul. I’ll be starting with the engine and out drive, before I put too much money in it. It ran well when it was sat 10 years ago.

Welcome and congrats!. I guess you are planning launch for the 2019 season? (Make sure you change that cuddly cabin to cuddy cabin!)

Also make sure the boat is worth the investment. I would recommend you have a marine survey.

I second that suggestion. Before you get into anything on the engine/outdrive have the boat's structure inspected by a certified marine surveyor. It's very possible that a 40 year old runabout could have rotten stringers, floors or transom or even all 3. It would not be uncommon.

I'm 3 1/2 years into what was supposed to be a 6 month project on my 1985 boat and my boat had no rot....anywhere. I'm also about $13,000 out of pocket and I have done much of the work myself saving me thousands. Can you imagine the horror of putting that much time and money into a boat only to find the stringers or transom rotted? What a waste.
