I just purchased a 1995 270 Sundancer with a 454 Mercruiser. I am planning to make her self sufficient by adding a Small portable 2K watt generator and a 2K watt inverter so I can do weekend trips to the local island, "Catalina". Due to the fact I just got this vessel would one of you more seasoned Sea Ray vets have any estimates of fuel consumption?

Before or after you die?

As a forum we cannot recommend using a portable gas generator on a boat.

PS my 'guess' is you will get 1.5 to 1.8 MPG at 28 to 35 MPH.

You will use 15 to 22 gallons per hour on plane in this speed range.

Sorry for the harsh reply to your first post here at CSR. I would rather have you upset with me and let this post bother you then have you going away thinking using a portable generator onboard a boat is safe.

Welcome to CSR.

+1

I'm not offended. Obviously most aren't capable of performing a safe install. FYI: I wasn't planning on sleeping with it. LOL Additionally I will vent it out. I figure with the gigantic gas engine already in the boat, the lil guy won't be lonely. Thank you for your concern and answering the fuel usage q.

You're not thinking of installing a Honda 2000i in your engine bay are you?
