New Memeber from the Lake Erie Islands

Welcome! Be patient and wait for the survey. 1. No insurance company will insure the boat without a survey and 2. I paid a couple hundred for my survey but he was able to knock off a couple thousand of the buying price. And he found a bunch of little things that I would have never looked at. And I second the thought of why there was so much glass work done.

i agree with the rest of the guys....wait for the survey. We all know how anxious you are as we've all been there. But, realistically, where you going? I believe it's very winter out where you are.

I am also curious about the hull work that was done. Why? Was it a stringer issue? These boats have/had a terrible limber hole arrangement and if the repairs were stringer related I could understand the work. I would make sure the surveyor knows this boat model. I would ask that question and if the. Surveyor is dragging his feet then find another. You're the customer, he works for you.

Try and be patient. I've been boating since I was 15 and I am now 65 and I have a lot of experience but there is no way I would buy a boat without a survey from a respected professional.

So I went through the boat from bow to stern top to bottom all systems and everything checked out good. The work that was done in the engine room was done due to moisture issues with the stringers and bulk head. The owner really cared for the boat and felt that the money he spent to have the work done was worth it. It is a very professional job and looks fantastic. This boat has been cared for very well. The previous owner has had the boat almost 15 years. After my inspection I have decided to move forward with the deal. If I wasn't in the boating industry for as long as I have with the contacts that I have I would have never done this. The biggest reason I am moving this along is the fact that this is such a great deal on a nice boat. I will need a survey for insurance not for financing.

Looking forward to having a great summer with the boat!

Hopefully you are setting this up with the "pending successful survey and sea trial"

I was in your shoes with the sister ship to your EC not 3 years ago and really had 'go fever' as well.
The amount of money you will drop on a survey is small compared to the price of the boat.
You almost have to look at the waiting and other delays as 'the cost of doing business'.

I researched buying a late 80's 300/340 for nearly 2 years before pulling the trigger.
The surveyor and Jason (as always - Thanks) pointed out things that even after two years of digging I would have never thought to look at.

If you are having issues with the surveyor, PM me. I can turn you on to the guy who did mine.

Any questions you might have about the 340 of that vintage.. well there are a ton of guys that know them inside and out on this board.

Nothing but the best of luck to you in your quest!

Would you ever buy a car without driving it first? The "pending sea trial" suggestion is an excellent piece of advice, and mind.

Looks like another case of a newbie to the site that asks advice then blows us off anyway. Boat repair guys love people like him.

Well I am not a Newbie by any means! I have a escrow account set up to take care of any problems that may come up at Sea Trial. This isn't my first rodeo. I have had multiple people on the boat and between them and myself lets just say we have plenty of experience with these boats and also the art of the Deal. I appreciate what you guys are saying. It's all correct advise and I am not discounting any of it. You will have to excuse me for going about this particular deal my own way. If I was the least bit worried about anything with this boat I would not be doing any of this without a survey.

Thanks for the advise!

Fair enough! I had to tell my late mother on more than a few occasions, "It was your opinion I asked for, not instructions!"

Again, good luck and perhaps I'll see you on our annual pilgrimage to the islands this year. We might make a few trips this year if gas prices stay down :smt038
Should you change you mind on the survey just PM me.

Thanks!

We will definitely be the islands. That would be great to meet!

The weather has finally allowed my surveyor to check the boat out. My inspection was dead on with his. I know that I took a risk but it pad off. I do want to thank everyone for the advise. Now its time to melt some ice and get this bad boy in the water!!! Cheers

Enjoy that fine classic Sea Ray!

Congrats, glad it went smoothly. We hope to start spring maintenance next weekend if we can get in the building. There was 6 feet of snow in front of the door last week when we did a drive by. Pass along the name of the boat, we'll keep an eye out for you when we are down that way this summer.

Congrats! You'll have to let me know where you're going to dock this year. We're looking forward to having more people to make some longer weekend runs with this year.

We are going to dock at Sandusky Harbor this year. So we will be in the bay. We would love to do some longer runs. I want to make it to Algonac Harbor Club on the St. Clair river. Not sure if we will be able to this year but I want to try. Where are you docked?

Bought my first Sea Ray last fall 280 DA. The only time I had her out was for the sea trial. Needless to say it'd been a long winter. Can't wait to get her in the Water. Hello Put-N-Bay!

From your picture that looks like Huron. Did you buy your boat from South Shore?
