New to SeaRay and sport cruisers (Sundancer 360)

I'm not sure where their tow boats are located so you may want to find out how close they are to your boating area. Their web site says that they cover a wide area down in SW Ontario. Up where we are, their boat is on the water right in our boating area in Georgian Bay.

FYI, with my last boat, back in about 2006, we had the engine hydrolock about 18 miles from our marina, at the end of the day Sunday. We did not have tow insurance. The only private tow guy we could get a hold of took about 2hrs to get to us (he told me he had been drinking too much and needed his wife to come down to go with him). Then there was about a 3 hour tow back for an hourly fee (dock to dock), plus his fuel charge. It was about $800 total for the tow.
wow I had a tow on the Tennessee river the towboat us covered less than 18 miles probably BoatUS/geico covered the 1300 bucks it cost for the tow and took all night

Very carefully...

It happened a couple of times with the 330DA, twin 7.4 V-Drives. Just went slow and had extra hands at the dock to tie her up. Happened 2 times with my last boat that had twin 5.7 with Bravo IIIs. Same thing, go slow, call ahead to get extra hands at the dock. In both cases for the most part it was a non event. The challenge is which engine has the power steering pump. In all cases I got lucky, that was the engine that continued to run. In another case I could run both engines so I had power steering (or whatever it's called, hydraulic steering). Picked up a crab pot in the prop so I could not run the drive though.

For one of those trips a 90 minute ride home turned into 8 hours, running in the dark with no radar, crab pots everywhere, got back to the home slip at 2AM. Oh, we had a thunderstorm too :) I followed my GPS track and did ok.

For the V-Drives I am told I should have clamped down the shaft on the engine not running. Never did, no known damage to the shaft/drive.

I feel like docking on one engine is one of those rights of passage of "bigger boating". And once you've done it, at least you know you can. I've seen folks make it look easy, and others make it look nearly impossible. I was somewhere in between when it happened to me :)

Thanks for the suggestion Creekwood. I just took a look at the C Tow website and was very surprised with the rather low cost for the peace of mind. Will be considering for sure. One issue and you are by far ahead of the game when considering the cost.
Before you sign up, read carefully. Some of these tow companies say unlimited towing. That means for the price they will come out an unlimited amount of times. It does not mean they will tow you an unlimited distance. And some of the worst have been known to put a salvage lien (look it up) on a boat.

Yeah, it's fun. When I lost a shift cable on mine, it would turn great to the right, but not the left. It "only" took three times to get it in right. Talk about a slow-motion dance!

They need to make a flag saying "one engine down".....it would alert other boats to give way...alert the dock hands they may be needed.....plus, I could fly it on the way back from the bar ;)

In the instance where I was "preparing" the non-running shaft issue was raised. Another SR pal wondered if I had the "crossover" shaft lubrication system that his SR has. When the tech repaired my issue (leaking water pump) he confirmed that my 360 does have the crossover. I will check the power steering this week. Thanks again, mrsrobinson!

Thank you for the heads up on this one. I will enquire and exercise due diligence before signing up. Great idea and thank you for sharing your knowledge where I don't have much, if any.

Hello everyone,
I was not sure of etiquette with posting and if you start a new "chat" with a new question. In any event, a quick question while I wait for the warmer weather to get our new boat in the water. Has anyone done anything with the space next to the doorway down to the cabin? I have attached a photo with a crude outline (sorry) showing the area I am referring to. The previous owner did a nice job placing a material similar to cork board on it but there is not a lip on it and it is still quite a slippery surface. My thought was to put a type of rubber matting on it to place sunglasses etc and not have anything slide off during calm touring. Has anyone done anything that they think would be helpful and care to share?

I hope this makes sense

Much thanks

I've used marine flooring to fill a few spots like that on my boat. You can buy it at places like sailrite.com. Easy to work with (if you don't bind it), cuts with a nice pair of scissors. If you have a sewing machine you could also add the binding for a more finished look.

For the EVA foam with adhesive backing - search "eva foam" here and you'll get all kinds of results...

Cam is the boat stored at Bridgeview now or still in Bayfield area, we have used Ultradeck in areas like those and under cup holders.
has a clean finished look.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I had not considered the sea or ultra deck. I will take a look.

Jamie the boat is still in Port Elgin until May. Once the weather breaks we will boat it down to Bridgeview. Hope to be there by the middle of May

Hello everyone,

Submitting an update on our progress. On Sunday, May 15, we went to the winter storage location for the boat and watched as it was loaded onto the trailer and followed it to the Port Elgin Marina where the boat was launched. After a very successful water test with the owners, we completed the transaction and purchased the boat. After a few bevvies on the boat with the previous owners, my wife and I slept on the boat. We woke to slight rain, more of a drizzle. After checking the weather, the waves and wind several times, as well as checking in with the harbour master for forecast, we filled up and headed down Huron to Sarnia. The sun came out after approx. an hour and it was smooth boating all the way to Sarnia. We were the only boat on the lake that we saw until we were travelling under the Blue Water Bridge. I was able to navigate the boat through our marina to our slip and docked on my first attempt which I know was simply luck. Felt pretty damn lucky as rain started about 10 minutes after we docked. My takeaways were:

I really love the boat! The previous owners were amazing and looked after it incredibly well. It really is showroom (in my bias opinion) condition and their pride in ownership was clear.
Everything worked terrific and the engines hummed along at about 3300RMP @ 23/24mph
Radar is a blessing, as is the navigation system
I also had an app on my phone going "Navionics" which is excellent as a back up
I am completely spoiled with bow and stern thrusters. I didn't use them when docking for gas, but used each for a little bump as I docked at the marina. Very convenient.

We are looking forward to a summer of phone and using this site as an excellent resource.

I hope everyone's boat is in the water, or soon to be, and all are good to go.

Keep well

No pictures of your maiden trip??? Come on now...:)

A thought for you for your first year with the boat - practice parking without those thrusters regularly. Inevitably there will come a day one or both will be on the fritz. You don't want that to be the first time you try getting into your home slip the old fashioned way.

I completely agree and will plan on it. I parked 2X on the day of the water test without using them. I really appreciated the second parking job at the gas pumps. The Harbour Master was kind enough to jump on board with me. I suggested if I get into trouble maybe he would take the helm. He replied with a smile and said he would be sitting next to me the entire time but he would leave it to me. I loved that answer! He showed me a few things and it really helped.

Oh! forgot to comment on photos. We are heading back to the boat tomorrow for the weekend, rain or shine, and will be posting some for sure. My wife has them all!

Hello all

We have been enjoying the heat and more importantly, the Air Conditioning on the boat. I have what I believe is the original CruiseAir unit which is under the main berth in the bow. The other night, the AC stopped working as we slept. It has been working very well until this time. Not sure what the issue is, but starting to look into it. The breaker was "tripped" in the morning and upon resetting it by placing it into the on position, the instrument panel for the AC came on and the fan started. It all ran well until I pushed the "COOL" button. I heard the condenser start to engage but then the breaker tripped within seconds. I don't think it even starts to expel water our the side outlet of the boat.

I took out the breaker and looked it over. My plan tomorrow is to order a new 30amp breaker from the marina service shop and see if this is the issue. I will also clean out the screen or filter near the seacock valve for the AC. The unit is very clean and I have cleaned the AC filters. I have been reading on line and have read that a common issue is the "start capacitor."

I will keep you updated as I try to problem solve this issue. I am open to any similar situations or fixes that any of you have had. I am hoping it is not difficult to replace the breaker. I was unaware that they can simply quit over time.

Thanks all
