Newby SeaRay Owner with electrical questions.

Hello all,

I'm new to the site, and new to SeaRay's so please bear with me!

I've got a new/used 88 Sorrento 24 (Z24?) that I just picked up and of course it needs a few things before I can get her on the water. Currently, both bilge pumps and the wiper are not responsive when I turn them on. The forward bilge looks like it's main function is to pump out the water from the small sink in the cockpit. I'm pretty sure of this because I switched on the small sink pump switch and it worked, and drained into the area below the cuddy step. The bilge in the engine compartment isn't responding, and the wiper as well, but these are things I've experienced before on my previous older boats.

Now I'm no electrician, but on my previous boat all I did was pop off the cover and I could find the fuses for all these and replace them. On this Sorrento, for the life of me, I can't find any fuses under the dash when I access it from inside. Would their be fuses for the bilge pumps or would these be directly connected to the batteries?

No Manuals came with the boat, but I'd love to find someone with a similar boat that I could bounce questions off of.

Bilge pump in engine compartment is wired direct to batteries. Are you saying you lift the float and it does not come on?

Yes, I know the front bilge had water in it and when I turned on the batteries and hit the switch, nothing happened. So I'm assuming that one is fried. There was no water in the engine compartment so I'm guessing (if the bilge works) that it's a float one and since no water, no need to come on.

As for the wiper, I took of the exterior enclosure to find a significant amount of rust around the motor housing and lots of rust in the cover. I'm guessing water got in and might have seized that as well.

Here is the manual for the 1988 Sorrento 25. I'm assuming that's what you have, since SR does not list a 24'.

The dash layout shows that it is a combination switch/breaker panel at the helm. I can't tell from your pic exactly what you have, but often the switches are actually toggle breakers or have integral fuses in them. There is also a Bilge Breaker Box (cc) shown in the bilge layout.

A digital multimeter or 12v test light is invaluable when it comes to tracing electrical faults.

tobnpr - Thanks. Nope, she's an S24 and I've only found 1 other member here that has the same boat. I guess it was a rare or limited model or something. I've already visited the SR website and looked through every available PDF manual and nothing is even close to my boat. Quite frustrating!

Anyway, I'm heading into the city with a list of items to pick up and you suggestion is on my list!
