We splashed our boat last week. Most systems are working properly but we're not getting power to the GHS lift and the Systems Monitor is showing the "Data Link Failure" message.

Our starboard battery died during winter storage and I recharged it without issue. While prepping the boat to go in the water I was able to operate the GHS lift without issue and did not notice the "Data Link Failure" message. Now that the boat is in, all DC systems are working properly with the exception of these two issues. Both items are powered by the starboard battery which has stayed above 12V since the boat has been in the water.

Starting with the GHS lift, all fuses in the GHS system are good and the only breaker I could find, pictured below, is properly set. No indicator lights on the pump are on and it does not seem like there is power to the system. Are there any other breakers or resets I may be missing? I did just find a GHS electrical system troubleshooting guide online and will try that next if I don't receive any other suggestions.

Regarding the Systems Monitor, both coax connections in the dash and the engine room seem to be good. I did open the black box, where the coax is connected in the engine room, hoping to find a reset button but there was not one in there. Based on some previous threads, I disconnected both batteries with the hope of resetting the system but the "Data Link Failure" message still appeared. Any suggestions on what may be going on would be appreciated.

It seems like these issues could be related to the previous starboard battery failure but the lift has operated since then so it does have me scratching my head a bit. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I’ll be watching this thread closely. I have the data link failure message as well. Inspected all coax connectors and connections with no positive result.

As far as the lift, look for a 30 or 40 amp breaker in the engine bay near where the main lift power cable is attached to the battery.

tc410...

i noticed you are located in Jupiter, FL.

I am as well and i have the 500DB that is new to me, same year as yours.

i just had my boat completely detailed and i noticed they were washing down the bridge area extensively and the next day i noticed the data link failure message.

i plan on pulling it and cleaning it up and drying it out and see what the issue is. i noticed that on flounderpounder that it says that when the data link failure message comes on it's an issue with the coax cable between the monitor and the module.....i don't know where the module is yet.

Hey Mac-

You’re going to love your 550! Awesome boat! Where are you keeping your new boat in Jupiter? We keep our 550 in northern Michigan.

My system monitor started flaking out with the data link failure. I’ve checked the connections at both ends, plus, there is a splice behind the starboard side access panel next to stairs on the bridge. All are solid connections and I can’t figure it out. By the way, the module on my 550 is on the forward bulkhead in the engine room, right above the two toilet vacuum pumps. You’ll see the familiar looking coax cable connected to it.

Let me know if you get anywhere. I’m at a dead end here.

Hey Jeff,

Cypress Island Marina.

Mine is only a 500 :)

Thanks for the info, i'll pull the existing and run a temp cable see if that works.

Hey Steve-

Sorry - misread! BUT the 2005 500DB is a super boat too - we had one for three years! Loved it! Sold it to my brother-in-law three years ago and he absolutely loves it too!

Cypress Island is a great location. We have a center console in the marina next to the new 1000 North restaurant at the Jupiter Federal Bridge (US-1).

As for the system monitor controller, I obviously told you for the 550. I don’t recall where it is on the 500.

Good morning,

I appreciate the feedback and will provide a quick update starting with the Systems Monitor. Of course the next time I went out to the boat the Systems Monitor was working normal and there were no error messages. Since that time I occasionally get the data link error but there has be no consistency. I will eventually have to replace my starboard battery that powers the Systems Monitor so I will let you all know if that does the trick. The 460 Sundancer control module is on the forward bulkhead of the engine room almost on the centerline. It's a black box with a coax cable and a wiring harness going into it.

Regarding the GHS lift, I followed the attached troubleshooting guide and had good power to the latching solenoid. (Please note, following the guide is difficult in some sections because our 460 Sundancer has the control box and all of the figures in the guide are for the solid state controller.) I then jumped to testing the hard wired hand held controller and did not have voltage across the two terminals. I tested the ground on the handheld and it was good so I had a power issue somewhere beyond the latching solenoid. I then went to step #8 in the guide and jumped the latching solenoid directly from the battery. This seemed to reset the system and when I tested the power at the hand held it was good. The lift has been working well since that time.

Hope everyone has a great summer on the water!

Brian

so there is a possibility that there is an issue with the coax cable or the interface module?

I pulled the DDU last night and cleaned the coax cables on both the DDU end and the interface module, plugged it back in and still got the error. I popped the circuit breaker for now and am doing a coax cable test this afternoon.
