Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

JMC I would say you have short somewhere or motor to vac flush is seizing like you say drawing to much amps to run it. Don't think fuse block is your problem. I have similar issue toilet and front pump work intermittently so I know I will have just pull new wire for these problem. I will let you know what I find pulling out today from water

This one project has completely changed the look of the cabin. May of use with the old 88’s WE have the four portholes up front and if yours look anything like mine the cabin is always dark unless you have the hatches open. I’ve replaced all four of the plastic potholes and WOW what a difference

Would you please post some pictures for us? I’d like to consider that, what did you replace them with?

I will take and post some photos tomorrow afternoon. I need to put the trim rings on. I think I’ve gotten brave enough to start the deck injections on Sunday.

Replacing the 12x12 hatches are next on the Fall list

What are deck injections?

My old girl has a soft spot just forward of the 12X12 hatch. The core has gotten wet most likely due to leaking around the horn.

One of our members here introduced me to Injectadeck and my plan is to start the drilling today. Tomorrow will be the injections. I will try to remember to get photos of that as well

Ok, I have to be honest, mostly I went and enjoyed the boat. Here are the portholes

Thanks for the pix, @dwna1a, they look great, nice upgrade! Where did you buy the new portholes, they come with rubber seals??

No rubber seals. The windows and trim rings can be found at SeaRayguy on eBay. They are not cheap but what a difference

This project was much easier than I thought it would be. Remove the old window ring carefully. I took a sharp flexible edge knife and cut the edge where the ring met the hull. Then slowly got the rings off.

Next you remove the screws that hold the window in. No big deal there. Once they are out you have to get the old glass out, again no big deal.

Once all that is done it’s cleaning time. Pull up a comfortable seat, it takes a good while. Again I used a good flexible knife. I used a puddy knife my dad made. Get it all off and out of the hole. This part would fall under doing it right. Take your time, this prep will pay off. Clean it well, I used rubbing alcohol to clean the opening and the hull surface.

Now this part is up to you, I used Flexseal and ran a bead around the plastic frame. I went heavy enough that when I screwed it in that sealer would press into the hole and a bit out around the edges. DO NOT over tighten the screws and snap the plastic. Clean up any excess and slowly tighten things up.

The trim rings have been a bit tricky so far…I will add this part in as I figure the best way out

Fall Project number 2 is underway. The filling of the soft spot. The must painful part of this is the drilling of the holes. I used 1/4 inch drill it. My slip neighbor had the best idea for this project, 1/4 dowel rod to fill the holes once the started to foam up. I drilled the holes, used blue tape over each hole, injected each, and then inserted the dowel rod to holed the foam. I removed the rod after 5 minutes. I did have one issue, the foam pushed down and under my headliner in the area of the curtains wooden frame. I don’t know why or how.

I still have two small areas to inject but the big area is done.

Easy job but have some folks around to help and be ready with everything you need very close by. Photos to follow tomorrow

What kind of hatches are you going with?

That seepage isnt surprising, the inner skin is very thin a d somewhat porous. As the foam kicked odd and pressure increased, some undoubtedly oozed they the skin. I has one spot do that on mine, about the size of a quarter. I mounted an LED light over it so I now have better cabin lighting and no visable mark.

The frames on all three are still in great shape so I’m just going to replace the glass. The old glass cam out with no issues. Should be a easy fix. Each piece will cost me around $40. They will do all the cuts and drilling

Scorpio, I’ve injected from about the horn down to the large forward hatch, but I still seem to have one spot the just doesn’t seem to have gotten full. Did you have to re inject any spots and did you have any issue doing it.

I did not but I dont see any issues going back over and catching any voids that still exist. I expected that issue when I did mine but was surprised I got it on one pass.

Ok thank you

Ok, I’ve injected the last of the soft spot. The whole project took three injections. If anyone else has to do this it’s not that difficult. As I said before drilling was the worst part. I stayed with 1/4” holes. Filling is next.

I do have one full tube and tip left over. If any others are looking to do this drop me a pm

I have no idea what bug got into me but the decking is done. I’m waiting on the glass for my two 12x12’s. Buffing out the forward nonskid this week. So I’ve moved on to the next part on my Fall list, rebedding. Nine times out of ten I’m down at the boats early and no one is around. So I picked up some ViceGrips locked them on and started. Another easy project done. Next will be the hardtop stanchions.

Winter is coming so a new list has started. New flooring to brighten the cabin up and a new folding table for the cockpit area.

To all of our new boaters here, these are easy projects to do, save your boat bucks and try them yourself

I’ve been sick now for almost a week but I’m still trying to nibble at my list. The 12x12’s were next. New Altra II from Taylor were very pricey and since the only issue I had was with the glass I choose to replace the glass. EPlastics sells 3/8” sections so I got two pieces. $60. I’ve got them cut and drilled now I just need to get better so I can go back to the boat
