Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Ok I’m to the last of my winter projects, cabin updates. I’ve started with the floor by removing the old carpet. I expected this to be my hell project, it’s far from it. The old carpet came up fairly easy, the backing had failed completely. The new flooring is ready to be put in but I’m waiting on a new table saw. Photos to follow.

Ok you can see the old carpet as it came up and the sub surface. The blue is a moisture barrier. The flooring is just laying there just to get a pattern. Next is to cut the molding so the wood can fit under it.

I plan to change my cabin carpet this spring. My back hurts looking at he photos. This may not be the year (ouch). Putting all new cockpit carpet. Never had any so snaps had to be added.

I got some dock rash on my port side rub rail last season when a fender strap broke during a storm, and the boat worked against the aluminum dock ladder. About a 4 foot area looked like it had been worked over with a coarse file and was a bit abrasive. I've sanded and primed it, but I'm trying to figure out what paint to use that will best match the original. I don't want to have to do the entire side. I realize it's going to get scratched and beat up, but I'd like it to blend in with the old. The area is right where we board the boat, so it needs attention.

Has anyone done a similar touchup?

I found a 2 part polyurethane silver marine paint that's a very close match to the original. I did the entire port side so there'd be no abrupt paint line. I want to see how it holds up, I may do the starboard side too.

BTW Samuri Marine paint on Amazon.

Oh wow what a year....and a half....or something like that? Seems the rest of yas have been quite busy outside of CSR, too, with that long gap between November and March!

Flooring looks great, dwna1a--will your non-boating gig lighten up at all for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor soon?

We suspended big projects for a while, including not dealing with the swim platform last year as we had hoped. We declared a no-go-zone instead, and thankfully have enough family/friends that there was always someone tied to us whose ladder we could use for water time. There were some family health things going on, as well, and job/schedule rearrangements, and the boat just wasn't a high priority for quite a while.

But times they are a-changin': BF's parents and aunt/uncle both listed their boats this spring and probably will be traveling more by car and air for the rest of their retirements. It will be REALLY weird without them....most especially because they were my lake family a full five seasons before I even started dating BF!!!

With their departure, we're consolidating "households." Later this month I'm moving IYL back to the marina where it was the first season I had it. I even got lucky enough there was an open slip on the same dock as BF's houseboat, recently vacated by a friend who had built out a deck/patio area, so we'll have plenty of room at both slips to do as much entertaining as we want.

Am planning the platform job in earnest now, so if anyone has replaced theirs and has spare supports taking up space in your garage or yard, give me a shout!

Here's to a great summer, all!

T, thank you. What do you need for the swim platform

The stainless support brackets that run from transom to underside of swim platform--mine has three, which bent in a storm my first season and have weakened/worn through over time. As a complete noob at the time, either it didn't occur to me to file an insurance claim, or I feared that filing less than two months after purchase would earn me a higher premium or get me dropped entirely!

May have to do my carpet if it can't be cleaned and deodorized. King Neptune tried to claim my boat last week. Bellows failed at launch. Took on quite a bit bit of water before being righted. Filed a claim but waiting for results. Im told it may be totaled. Love this boat and not looking for another. Some say it should be repairable since the engines weren't under. I hope so.

Yikes! 'Same thing happened to me, but we were on the trailer. My whole season lasted as long as backing into the lake to check for leaks, then pulling it right back out without even starting the engines, so no loss of carpet there. However, we used baking soda and vinegar with a couple of drops of Dawn soap in hot water for the stains down the walls from a leaky rub rail. Other options: https://www.tipsbulletin.com/how-to-get-mold-out-of-carpet/

I think I can help you with that problem. Give me a couple of days

Oh no--that's terrible! Crossing fingers for you.

New to the site, we just bought a boat ... 88 Sundancer 300, this site helped me to determine what boat we wanted, so thank you ! Needs TLC, lucky for us it was a freshwater boat, now she'll be an ocean girl ! Mine and my hubby's family have been avid boaters for decades, but not in about 10 years, so we decided it's time again to have some boating fun.

Nice to meet you all and looking forward to learning tips and tricks for our boat !

Welcome Peepers! You will be able to learn a lot in the club. I have made a lot of changes and improvements to SSP that, without the info and encouragement from members, I never would have attempted. Given time, go back thru son of the other entries over the past years. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Good boating!!!

Well, all is looking good with SSP. My mechanic says things are not as bad as first appeared. Having New Bellows, shift cables, senders, starters, and alternators on both sides. Both engines flushed and oil changes. Going to need at least 1 battery, and add a 3 battery charger. He says I could be afloat in about a week. All the parts are in so it's about getting it done now.
