Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

My vacu flush pump began tripping the breaker this weekend. Is there any other option but a pump replacement? 2001 310 v-drives.
Switch the breaker, just in case, breakers get weak sometimes and will trip. Also, double check the connections, a loose connection will also cause it. Could be the vacuflush, but eliminate those small items first

Thanks, and I'm not positive that it is a circuit breaker. I'm referring to the rocker switch in the DC panel where I turn on and off the various circuits in the boat.

Hey all, new to the forum but have been following for years. I have a deposit on an 02 310 with twin 5.7 horizons and v drives. Everything is in great shape and I have a survey scheduled next week. The owner has had the boat 15 years and seemed to stay on top of things. The only thing that concerned me is that he said the transmission oil has never been changed because he was told, like a car, at some point it will hurt more than do good if you change the oil. Is this correct? This will be my first V drive boat. The hull has 1,000 hours, the engines were overhauled at 600 hours (I would think the oil in the transmissions would have been changed at that point). Would appreciate any and all input!

I have heard if it’s red, change it, but if it’s dirty to leave it. I had mine changed 3 summers ago when I bought my 380. No issues, gonna change it again when I get to 250 hours on this transmission oil

thanks for the quick response. Any other input is appreciated! I’m getting oil analysis on the motors but at $150 per analysis I don’t plan on doing the transmissions.

$150 seems high, I think it was 30-35 when I bought my boat 3 years ago…. I would pay the $300 for the peace of mind on the transmission fluids. They are very dependable though.

I agree, he’s charging me $25/ft plus $200 sea trial + $125 each oil analysis if I want it. Everyone else is booked out 3 weeks to a month in the area so I don’t have many choices.

Hey guys, got my survey done today and everything went great. Only issue is the generator. It’s showing zero voltage on the panel and will only run with the preheat switch held down. I read that the running issue is most likely a sensor (I’ll have to test once I take delivery of the boat). Any ideas on the voltage problem?

If those original engines only lasted 400 hours I would question how "on top of things" he really was.

Hey guys. Got my oil analysis results back today on my boat. Twin 5.7 horizons with approx 500 hours. Half FWC system (block only). What’s your thoughts on the port side results?

I'm not sure how much you can gain from a single sample with an unknown interval. I would start by changing the oil on both in order to get a base line. There is nothing you can do about the existing particulates (other than a fresh oil change). What you want to do is find out if it is an ongoing problem by closely watching it over several shortened change cycles.

Regarding the fuel in the oil, it could be an issue with rings or valves which should show up in a compression test. Or could be as simple as constant low RPM. With the right tool, you should be able to pull the RPM history of each engine, to determine how the engine was treated in terms of RPM. If the PO put 3 or 400 hours never going above 1500 RPM, you might expect some extra fuel in the oil.

Thanks for the reply. Should I be concerned with the sodium? I’m a little confused because it says there’s evidence of sodium but not water leading me against water intrusion.

The sodium could be from a previously corrected problem, like maybe a small leak in an exhaust riser. If it were ongoing, I would expect maybe slight overheating. Something else to keep an eye on. Even there it's all about getting a baseline. When you do your oil change, also have the closed portion of your cooling systems completely flushed, then as previously mentioned put the oil testing on an accelerated regimen for a while.

Bennett Drop Fin Trim Plane Assembly

Just put a set of these on my 01 310. Identical to the original, but for the drop down fins. This has made for a totally better handling boat. No longer an issue to get on plane and no longer need full down trim for cruise. No more nose high!
