Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

I do not have any rod holders installed. However I just posted a couple of pics of the step and the area you want to install the rod holder in the thread you started. After some examination, I don't believe I'd mess with pulling out the step unit. And there is no way to see that area from the transom locker power inlet area.

Wife's been after me to come up with an idea to get the satellite receiver and dvd player off the tv shelf in the galley. Here's a couple of pics of the nice mod we did over the weekend. Freed up alot of the galley overhead shelf by leaving the HD-LCD TV there but moving the satellite box and dvd player elsewhere. I will have to either find or build some kind of stacking unit to hold the sat. receiver and dvd player in their new home. And no problem with the remotes, will still work from the sofa.

Now she wants a new "black' coffeepot as well. Says this one is a hundred years old . . . .

Looking for some help locating an A/C-heat diagram (locations actually) I'm trying to determine the location of the fan as well as the air return. When I run the A/C after a few hours the cabin has a smell to it... need to find/fix source... Thanks!

I might have some paperwork on the A/C unit but its all on my boat. I will be at the dock tomorrow and will take a look. You can see or access part of the unit at the shower sump pump location under the vinyl step if you need to look around. Other than that I kinda got a feeling that the panels under the mid-berth mattress would have to be removed to access the full A/C unit. Just a guess tho. Have not investigated that but looks to me like the only way to get there.

Just a thought, but have you checked or cleaned the sump pump box area recently? The A/C condensate goes into the shower sump along with shower water. If the pump quits working or gets stopped up with gunk then that could cause backup or overflo out of the sump box. If that happens it can cause a musty smell in a closed-up cabin.

Thanks. I clean the sump yearly, the odor is definitely engine roomish (?) I'm wondering of I have some leaking duct/vent work. Contemplating fabricating a filter for the return air...

Too much fun at the dock this weekend so I brought my SR bag home. I have 3 booklets on the A/C and only one has diagrams of 2 different units and show the blower location, not sure if I saw the air return location tho. It appears that one duct runs thru the head/starboard side wall to the air vent by the starboard window, another just behind the unit itself to the mid-berth vent, and another to the tiny vent located under the mirror cabinet in the head. I'll post those diagrams tonite.

You can access the unit by taking the forward wall out in the midcabin...my air return is at the cabin step riser...I believe my 2001 or earlier with dinette was a little different configuration...Even with the wall down access to the pan is limited, I think I was able to spray some evaporator deodorizer on some of the evaporator. Hope this helps

Anybody replaced their red/green running lights with LEDs? Although we're rarely out at night, last weekend I was checking my lights and saw that the greenie was not working. I tried to change the bulb and the whole thing just fell apart. The white plastic housing is fine, just the lens and insides were history. I've had trouble with this particular one since I've owned the boat so just opted to get both new red & green 2 mile LEDs. Just wondering if anyone else had LED running lights and if they were happy with them.

Do you have part or model umbers for the new lights? I go through 5 or 6 bulbs on these a season

This is what I ordered. The green light is over to the right. Somehow I got $10 off when I ordered mine but the shipping added it back. I put them on today but didn't take a pic. They look really nice tho, lots better than the dirty while plastic Perkos. Note the red indicator dot on top - lights up when lights are on. Should be easy to see that they're working from the cockpit now. My screw holes were in a different place but still fit just fine. I like that it sits on a gasket as the old Perkos had none, were just caulked.

I followed jamesgangs lead and replaced mine (including the transom light) and am very happy with the amount of light they produce. I got a really good deal from a friend that is a W--- Marine employee, saved a HUGE amount of $$$. In any case theyre worth the $$$.

@15590811: I've never checked to see which battery is house but I need to do that. Maybe some else can answer that question for you.

@ Good Grief: Congrats on the new lights. I plan to change out my transom & cockpits some day! Which lights did you get?

There have been alot of battery questions asked in this thread. Looks like we need pics of our '98 290 battery set-ups for reference purposes although we might not be able to tell much from them. I can't get to my boat before the weekend. Anybody else able to post some pics?

I went with the Attwood LED running lights (red, green, stern). I'm going top replace the cockpit lights as well but with something bigger. West has 4 or 6" LED lights that have a switch on them that allows you to change color from white to red. They're expensive though, about $100 each.

Why not just turn off one battery at a time to see what it powers? I know that to raise or lower the drives, you need both banks. I'm certain there is a logical reason for this, but it escapes me...

I had been thinking about those after reading a post about someone's recent install of the r/w/b LEDs in their arch. I think I need only 4 to do my cockpit, 2 in the arch, 1 at helm and 1 under back bench seat. Then I want to change the cabin w/LEDs some day.

Oh well . . . just a matter of time and funds.

After seeing how good the LED's look, I've got to find a W Marine employee to befriend!
