Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Hey crew, I know this has been asked and answered, but I can’t find it. Does anyone have the QuickSilver part # for the dual trim switches in the handle? My port down switch isn’t working. Going to try some WD40 when I go down today.
Thanks in advance.

Look in my link below for the Quicksilver Dual Throttle. Close to the end it shows how to remove the switches. Might be able to trouble shoot with a volt meter to see if it's the switch or something else. Or even switch the switches from port to starboard to see if it is just the switch. Say that quick a few times. ;)

I can only give ya what i did, same problem. Port would not go up by switch, replaced both switches and same problem. Was the trim switches on drive. One side is to guage one side to limit switch. My limit switch was bad so it would not open circuit to tell drive to go up. If you can use trailer button and drives go up inspect that

Thanks guys, With no one on the boat and all quiet I can hear the relay click, drive goes up but not down. Too bad it’s the port engine which charges the house battery. We were out yesterday and went across a shoal to save time but I had to trim the drives up when we got into 3< of water. They’re lowering the lake for winter maintenance so chart said 6’ but too late before it got really shallow. Now the port engine won’t go down. I just had the relays changed but maybe it has failed again. I have a new mechanic supposed to come tomorrow and work the generator for me so I’ll ask him to jump it and see if it can go down. Guess I need to start buying relays by the gross and staying in the white part of the chart.

My boat is 500 lbs heavier then stock due to the amount of spair parts i keep on board. My moto is always be prepaired, its only gonna break on a weekend while your crew is on the dock with a cooler full of fun. Im in the florida keys now. Good luck finding parts for a 1988 5.7 merc with a alpha drive. I keep a stockpile of parts on hand. Took the wife and friends to the sand bar and noticed the volts drop on the way. Anchor up and look to see. Yup, blew the alternator belt that took out the power steering belt with it. Wife starts to freak and im like, no big. Go to my spair parts spot in the bow and yup, i keep a extra set of belts on board. 15 minute swap out and back in the water with a cold drink and a smile back on the admirals face. Be prepaired for the worse, hope for the best = BOAT

I get laughed at with my oversize tool box, spare parts, etc. that I keep on board and in my truck. You are right Jeff, you can never be over prepped! Guess who everyone comes to when something on THEIR boat, truck or trailer breaks?

My new philosophy is that I will gladly help with tools and spare parts if I have them, however, I absolutely refuse to wrench on other peoples junk anymore. Just cause my boat runs perfect and I do my own maintenance, does not mean I'm a boat mechanic and will wrench on other peoples dilapidated crap...LOL.

Mine too anymore. I have a friend with a boat. So i asked him while doing a oil change and other odds and ends when he did his manifolds and risers last. He looks at me with a dumbfounded look and says never, i have only owned the boat 11 years and it dont run hot. I smack my forehead and say dude, your playing with fire, well 2 weeks later he calls me and says o man, i have water in my oil. Well guess what. 1 riser port rotted and dropped a shit ton of water in the block. Season was over and $8,000 later just got it back with a new motor. I keep a log of every part i change out with a schedual of what needs to be done next year. Buy all the crap over the winter and do in the spring for a stress free summer.

Hey Crew, Mechanic came yesterday and replaced the GenSet coupler, old one was in about 4 pieces, new impeller, (I told him to since I had it), new choke assembly and found a loose connection on the port drive relay ( the new one just replaced!) drive is back working. So absolute no start on the GenSet no click no anything from the switch on the generator and in the cabin. Here’s the sequence of events:

1. Started he GenSet and no raw water

2.Took the boat to the marina repair people to service the GenSet and drive relays. (Read my other post about all that drama) did not try to start the GenSet due to the coupler not being repaired.

3. Had Super Electrician install the new battery charger. Everything looks great.

4. Called the new mechanic to repair the coupler, he and his brother do a good bit of work at my marina. He fixed it as described above. Tried to start the GenSet and nothing. To mechanics credit he admitted he’s not up on electrics that aren’t working.

5. Texted Super Electrician, he said to look for a breaker on the GenSet. He’s on a deep sea fishing trip coming back on the 5th. The obvious A/C breaker and fuses are good on the remote panel.

Am I missing something not so obvious or is there a hidden handshake somewhere on the Genset?

I Love My Boat.

Ah yes BTW dropped the Magma grill post in the water at the slip. Anyone have one they would like to sell me? It’s the twist lock version.
Emailed Magma to see if I can just but the post.

You keep saying drive relays. Do you mean the solenoid on the drive pumps that makes the drive go up and down?

How deep is the water at the slip?

Our marina keeps a large fish net on a long handle at the fuel dock for whoopsies.
