Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Perhaps not; anyone else also making the assumption that: a) all the info available via VesselView appears ANYwhere on a SPX dash; OR, b) one can’t pull up info about the engine from anywhere (using the app only when on the boat is in reality limiting its ability).

It’s not for everyone fer sure (but, I made sure I got complete info before I made the decision to get it)!

Happy trails!
In my case when I ordered the boat with the chart plotter it deleted the gauge which shows oil pressure and engine temp. (Attached is a picture I pulled off the internet of a similiar dash) As you can see there isn't a heck of a lot of engine information available. I didn't realize at the time that I would be losing that info when ordering the charplotter. I see in the new boats they are offering a "digital dash" option for the boat for around 2800. It is a 1800 up charge from the standard chart plotter but it's also linked to Smartcraft. For 149.00 the Vessel View Mobile might be another solution for some, like me, to get the same info for a lot less.

I'll start with an intro...

We purchased a 2016 19SPX equipped as follows in late July 2016:

2016 Sea Ray 19SPX
Mercruiser 4.5L MPI A1 (200 PHP) Stern Drive
Sport Graphics
Colored Hull Side & White Bottom
Captain's Package
Stainless Steel Componenet Upgrade
Bimini Top & Boot
Cockpit Cover w/ Tonneau Cover
Flooring - Snap In Carpet
High Altitude Prop (19P)
Dual Axle Trailer w/ Disc Brakes

I've included a couple pictures below of it in the showroom and one in the driveway. So far we've had it out about 5 times and have 13 hours on it. Wish we could have gotten out more, but the season was short being that we purchased it late summer. It's been great family fun and can't wait for next season.

Have lots of questions and upgrades I'm looking to do. Look forward to talking to you all and seeing your SPX's as well!

Frank

Is the jeep you are towing it with the 3.6 V6 or the 5.7 V8. If it is the V6 how does it tow at highway speeds? Thanks.

It was the 3.0L diesel. Pulled the boat just fine, but I never felt 100% comfortable towing the boat with it so I traded it in for an F150 SuperCrew.

HI All,
Looking to buy an SPX 210 wondering if it is worth the $8k to upgrade from the 150 OB to the 200? Any input would be appreciated! Also what do you think a fair price is based off MSRP -10%, 15%??? Don't know if this is correct or not but I read somewhere that markup from dealer invoice to MSRP can be upwards of 30 or 40%?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm going to provide some insight based on 50+ years of experience, but with little hard current data. We debated over the 190/210 and ended up with the 190. I upgraded to the 150 HP, which was only a $2600 upcharge. With only 35 minutes on the clock before the snow fell I can say it looks like it was a good choice (in our case).

The 150 is an awesome engine and it has stellar reviews. So far our limited demo ride showed 47 mph. The 210 is only 250# heavier (and with a similar hull), so I would guess 45 mph would be a good guess.

If you look at boat ads, the 210 in almost every case is being ordered with the 150. So I guess the dealers are assuming what people will be willing to spend.

It all depends on what your objective is. Are you interested in "performance", water sports, or all-out maximum speeeed. Our kids are grown and they can do water sports in their own boats. These days we are primarily cruisers. Our waters can get pretty choppy, so we usually run at cruise throttle. WOT on a Sunday would be a real b$%^buster.

To answer your question, IMHO, its not worth the extra 8 grand. Other than maximizing speed, low end or mid range performance can be optimized with the right prop.

As a final note, the SPX is SeaRay's "value" or "entry level" line. My info is that the markup is only in the 10 or 12% range. So, don't expect a huge discount.

Jim, thanks for the insight and quick reply! Basically we just cruise around and pull our kids on a tube, maybe 3 or 4 at a time though. Guessing the 150 will be enough, our friend has the 190 with the 150 he says there is plenty of power.

I agree with Jim. SPX is entry level and you won't see the 30+% off that you might get with the large boats loaded with options. 15% for the boat itself and maybe 25% off for options. Go to https://seedealercost.com/marine/browse/product/sea-ray-210-spx-outboard-2019 and price one out with your options and it'll give you a good idea. If you get somewhere in between the MSRP and Invoice, I think your doing well. I'll let others who have the 210 with the 150HP chime in, but based on my experience with the 150, I think it should be plenty of power. Spend the 8k on other options. Good luck, Brian

I have the 210 with the 150 and find it to have plenty of power. Tow the Grands on tubes. The only change I am making is going to a 4 blade 15”pitch prop for more low end grunt. Top end currently is upper 40’s with the 3 blade 17” pitch. Save the money with the 150 and spend it on the bling.

Winter Updates to my 21 SPX! Preparing to take my boat to the Keys this summer.
->Adding a 2nd battery and switch. Everything is done except buying a new battery.

-> Thanks to this forum I saw that the Vessel View Mobile was on sale, so that is ordered an on the way!

3152-16 I "think" the 16 is fault code for your MAP sensor. Hopefully someone more mechanically inclined will chime in soon. Good luck, Brian

How do the other numbers look? Water, engine temp, oil, etc?

Not sure yet. Was hoping to get her in the water this weekend but weather looks like it is not going to cooperate.
Can I run the motor with hose hooked up to flush port or does it need to have muffs put on at water pickup at base of foot?

When you are out boating with the engine running and your smartphone connected to Vessel View, approximately how much "data" does your phone use?

Would think you are not using any of your data from your plan. Do not think anything is connected to the internet. If there is, it would be very little. Will have to check that out next time out.

Well, this is a real problem now. All this talk about VV and it just convinced me to buy one. Actually I bought two. If the SeaRay was getting one I couldn't leave the Boston Whaler without one.

So, that meant getting 2 Ram mounts as well. And of course, I had to get a new cellphone too to properly download the app.

Now, with all parts ordered and on the way, I got up this morning to 6" of snow being covered by freezing rain. Oh the horrors! The problem is its going to be a long winter......LOL.

Had the boat out today, got about 5 more hours on it, 60 total. All the numbers looked good. Did not think about screenshooting it.
Topped out around 6k RPM and 48 MPH.
Discovered my UBS charger on board does not work, going to try another charger and also check the cig. Lighter type charge port.

Glad it all worked out. I’m always doing screen shots, especially at the end of the day. I’m always forgetting how much gas I have left over for the next trip. We dry store ours and I use that info to let them know whether or not to top off the tank before they launch it.
