Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

They want like 1600 to do the whole thing inside and out.
My Ford dealer charges $500 for a car or truck.

I wonder what "inside and out" means.

Years ago they used to charge "hundreds" to scotch-brite a car's interior. But that application was on the fabric.

I use Maguires "Quik Wax" on my boats and RV. After a year, when I do it again, tjere is still some protection left.

Keep the boat in inside storage when not in use, keep it covered to keep the dirt and spiders out, and detail it once in awhile. I can detail the upholstery and hull in 30-40 minutes. That's partly because I never let it get too bad, and I use good products.

My dealer charged me $1300 for ceramic coating and inside “protection”. Only reason I went with it is it coasts about $800 to do a car with ceramic and a boat probably around the same. The difference was it came with a 5ry insurance for helping repair exterior gel coat damage , fading and interior damage like rips , tears , staining etc. s

So yes I paid some money but was well worth ceramic coat and 5 yr insurance policy. Already saw some issues with sunscreen on interior but it cleaned out easily for now.

as for prop change, wait till you try the boat. Mine was stern drive and the hydrofoil made a difference. The 4 blade prop not so much that I saw or felt but will have to play with it more.

as for prop change, wait till you try the boat.

You only want to buy a new prop once, so before you do the boat must be broken in and you have determined the WOT rpm. With that data you know what prop pitch to buy.

Our typical excursion will find us anchored on a sandbar. As such, I have run nothing but SS props for nearly 40 years. Searay's OEM aluminum prop is proper for the boat, but it does not have the durability or performance potential of SS.

I'm enjoying the benefits of my Enertia upgrade. However, I do realize that I'll probably never recoup the $650 cost.

Hi there. New here and curious if anyone has experience replacing the upholstery on their SPX.

I have a 2016 SPX 19 OB and unfortunately the previous owner did not care for the vinyl properly. It is stained and cracking with seams coming undone.

It only has the basic upholstery package from the factory. I got an estimate at a marine upholstery shop in Columbus, OH to reupholster the entire boat though they quoted me $5,000 which seems steep.

Would love to hear from others that have had similar experience.

Thanks

Actually, that seems about right. There's a lot of labor involved.

Thanks for your reply. I’m going to also try to get a quote from a Sea Ray dealer for ordering all new parts as a comparison.

"Usually" the vinyl (Sea Ray refers to them as "skins") are only available for a few years so chances are, at 6 years old, they may no longer be available. But it doesn't hurt to ask. I believe it will be more expensive to buy the skins, though - and you still have to do the labor or removal/disassembly/reinstall.

Update: I found another upholstery shop near Buckeye Lake who quoted me ~$2,500 to reupholster the entire boat. Service is scheduled for the first week of December. If anyone is interested I can share some before/after photos.

That's a steal. Just double check that you're getting a good quality job. But if so, sign that check before they change their mind.

Flat dead battery after one month of sitting. The battery switch was off. I determined there was 170mA of drain with switch off. I looked at the manual for the radio and it does state that current is under 200mA when turned off. and says to wire it so all power is switched so it doesn't kill battery in storage. Has anyone rewired the radio to solve this?
Or more likely has anyone rewired some connections down at battery switch/battery to solve this issue? I will call dealer tomorrow but have found knowledge on this board better than dealer.

I’ve always had 2 battery set up on all my boats. 19SPX included. Piece of mind. Never had an issue with the batteries after sitting a couple months unused. I’d look into adding it if you haven’t done so already.

Plus you can run accessories all day and not worry about killing all your juice. On my order (not here yet) second battery was an absolute must. The classic red switch I'm not getting, that's what I'd like. But my broker says it's all automatic and works well, so we will see.

Update:

After months of waiting I got it back today. At first glance it looks better though there are some imperfections I will need to go back and have addressed.
  • Fabric in the rounded corners is pulling/bubbling
  • The “feet” on the underside of cushions were put back in the wrong position
  • Some black stitching where there should be white
  • Excess fabric on edges
It’s a very nice older couple that owns the shop and trust they will fix it. I will take more photos upon final resolution. We have a winter storm incoming so I was racing this afternoon to get it back in storage.

The solution to the radio draining the battery was to re-wire the hot wire to after the battery switch. The tech said it was a known issue. The hot wire direct to battery allowed radio to come on immediately after battery was switched on, it isn't needed for station memory. So now the radio takes almost a minute to come on after battery is switched on.

Some of the comments here don't compute. When we ordered our boat, the dealer said I "needed" the battery switch, in case we forgot to turn off the radio it would kill the battery.

I said I'm not paying ten times the cost of a switch just to have it factory installed. So, I bought my own switch (a 100% high quality Perko marine switch) and installed it myself.
With the switch off, nothing works. When I switch it on, the radio comes on instantly.

I check current drain. With the engine off and the radio and sonar on all afternoon, the draw is exceptionally low. In years past, when we trolled in old boats using a VHF and sonar all day, I needed a second battery. The current electronics are awesome. A second battery serves no purpose any more.

Hi all, recent owner of a 210 SPX OB.

I saw that some owners have retrofitted tables attaching to the deck/ski locker. I am interested in using a Garelick side table mounted below the port bench seating (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P0A5F5...olid=1VIY1O0CLM4KF&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it)

It would require making holes into the storage area below the seat, to affix the mounting and backing plates. Has anyone done this on this particular boat, or envisage any problems doing so?

Thanks!
