Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Tomco,

I thought I found a cross for the 120V bulbs, but they were incorrect. I have never found an LED cross for the incandescent ones, but honestly with the improved light from the LEDs, we don't even need the 120V anymore.

I have done my friends boat many times, (2003.5) and can honestly say it is a pain the rear. The only trick I have found is on the port engine, we were able to tag team the filter, with him holding the wrench on one side, and I working in the other fitting. It was not fun, and we still ended up crimping the fitting while tightening the hose.

I like my cool fuel system better, even if it is more expensive to change filters. My 2003 320 DA was much easier as the filters were in an area that was easy to access. Shame on Sea Ray for placing the the filters in such a poor spot. Probably designed by the same A-Hole who thought it was smart to locate the fuel fill on the side of the boat, where you have no choice but to hang over the gunnel and wrestle the nozzle around the bow rail. S-T-U-P-I-D design on an otherwise flawless boat.

Funny you say that about the fuel fills, I just got fuel and was thinking to myself what a stupid place that is. They are on the side gunnel, right below the bow rail, and Mose fuel docks I go to it seems the fuel dock is at the same level as the fill so I have to sit on the dock while holding the boat off the dock in order to fill. Terrible placement.

Hey guys, Has anyone replaced their drop in horn? If so, what with? And is this just a direct wiring between horn button to horn? There isn't any relays or anything else that could fail along the wire route is there? I know the fuse is ok but the horn stopped working.. It never was very impressive so far for the 30 days I've owned boat.... I'm thinking this is a replacement but not sure. http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/683-10050.htm

Yes, my horn also sounds like one from a sub-compact. The previous owner added a dual trumpet - has a nice deep tone now. They wired it to a new rocker switch on the helm.

Now that summer is here (if you call this summer) I will generally keep my canvas and glass down and use the cockpit cover while away from the boat. Question is where do you guys store the glass and canvas on your boat. I have the nice bag but if I use it it makes storing it anywhere but in the aft a pain.

I hardly ever use my canvas and side curtains. I always use my cockpit cover. I lay the side curtains out on the cabin floor sstarting with the biggest one first. Between each curtain I put a towel that I bought cheap from Walmart. This keeps the glass from scratching. I then put each piece of glass on top of he next and then roll the whole thing up and it will fit in the bag. This way, there won't be too many folds in the plastic windows. I then put the bag in the hanging locker to the right of the front berth. We don't use it for hanging so it is a good use of space for us.

My water temp (sea water, not engine) are also way off (like 145 degrees!) - not sure what causing it so I'm interested in how you solve yours. Pls post the solution if you figure it out.

UPDATE

The solution to the Air temp ended up being easy. I opened the fuse access panel under the steering wheel and unscrewed the back of the temp sensor on the lower right side of the helm. (See Kreole Kids Pic). Unplugged it, sprayed some electrical cleaner in the connection and reassembled. That seemed to do the trick.

Although I have replaced the SaniGard Holding Vent Tank filter in my 340 Sundancer after you flush there is still a smell.
Anyone come across this and if so how was it resolved?

Thanks

Make sure that when you do the pump out and flush the tank with fresh water you don't overfill with fresh water. If overfilled the filter will get wet and ruin it. That happened to me.

Hey Alex ... that is good news and easy enough. I've not made much headway re; the water temp issue on mine - I've had a few other issues to focus on. Based on some info I've read the sensor is with the depth sensor - some say the sensor needs to be replaced, although there may be a reset capability within the Smartcraft. I just haven't had the time to go through the menus. Will post the solution should I figure it out.

Great thread guys. Lots of good info in here for our boats!

In the south, there is a distinct transition with the canvas. We refer to it as winter canvas and summer canvas. When the winter canvas ( with the glass) comes off I clean it, wrap it between layers of some cheap sheets I bought at Wal Mart. Take it home to store.

I replaced mine yesterday on my 2005 340 Sundancer. I purchased the SaniGard Holding Tank Vent Filter 5/8" from West Marine.

I need to do this...what was involved in replacing the holding tank vent filter...is it just a straight forward job, or are there tricks that I need to be aware of before doing it?

Mine was straight forward. Just two connectors on each end of the vent. The filter is on top of the head system. There is a strap holding the filter in place. I undid the strap, unscrewed the connectors, took a deep breath (it does not smell nice when you remove the old filter) and removed the old filter. I dropped it into a plastic bag. Reverse the process to install the new one. I had my wife flush the head a couple of times to make sure we were not getting any smells and made sure the connectors were tight.
As with all maintenance jobs in the bilge I find it would be easier if I was 4 feet high, extremely thin, with 6 foot arms but I guess you cannot have everything
