Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Last year I paid 5k for manifolds, sea water pump rebuild kits and idler pulley. Risers are stainless steel,so no need to replace. Also got a generator fuel relay replaced. I will look at invoice later to see what the stuff actually cost.

I just finished doing my manifolds and new water pumps. I purchased the manifolds from Michigan Motorz (link in that thread yv1 posted) along with water pumps. The manifolds were $460 each and the elbow gaskets you’ll need are $43 per. As others have said your elbows/risers are stainless and shouldn’t need replacing. Mine virtually looked brand new upon inspection. If you can get your own parts, you should be able to find a mechanic that can do the manifolds for around $1000. It’s a big job. I did end up getting new bolts from Mercury (just the manifold to riser bolts) and those aren’t cheap. I paid $15 per bolt which is high IMO but needed them fast. You’ll likely need some.

I feel like I could do the job myself, but I’m so worried that a bolt will snap off and then I’m really “screwed” lol

Anyone do any shower upgrades, looking for ideas to make the shower a little better.

Working on this now. In the planning stages but it involves new counter, stainless sink, updated faucet and shower head, and a new floor (leaning towards a teak grate based on some recommendations)

I will update as this progresses. Our lousy weather has delayed getting our wrap off and getting additional fabrication estimates on the counters.

I know there’s a screen in the shower head, but there’s screens in the knobs also?

Hi Kevin long winter, please share that bathroom project I would like to make using it a more enjoyable process. Thanks

Kevin you may have some experience here. I’ve got the old Raymarine C80, Raystar 125, not sure about radar or transducer but you get the picture. I’d like to upgrade to an Axiom unit, but then does that mean I’ll need to replace all of the components as well? I’m sure it’s not a simple install either way and I’d likely need (want) to have it professionally done. Any guesstimate in cost of what something like this would take?

I have a busy spring planned...

On my boat I am replacing my old Raymarine Radar and Display with the Axiom and Quantum Radar. From my research I believe the only thing I may be able to reuse is possibly the transducer. Until I can get the model number I will not know for sure.

The MFD has the GPS built in and our Sundancer's should probably not need the external GPS. The Quantum will need to be wired from the helm to the top of the arch - I am running power and data (not a fan of WIFI only on the Radar). I expect to pull the pocket next to the helm and the panels by the arch at the seats and fish the wires through - may need to remove a speaker - depends on what I run into. I hope to use some of the old wires to add a pull line if one is not readily available. The center access panel and arch lights help to give a little more access up top.

The transducer is my unknown until I get the wrap off (hopefully this week) and may hold up my next steps. If it can be reused I will probably order a Axiom 7 to pair up and replace the older Garmin the previous owner installed. If not that may become a fall project after the boat is hauled.

I also need to determine my dash plans - I may just cut black panels (similar to my VHF ones) and install the MFDs. Ideally I would like to upgrade the look of all the panels and have been considering Tecnographics as well as cutting panels and custom wrapping them. My dilemma is that the covers on my switch pads are cracking (not peeling) and I need to have a pair to redo them to match (I have already posted looking for anyone with unused black ones after a swap).

As this project progresses I will update.

Too long of a winter - as well you know - and too many projects than have become spring projects. I will keep you updated as we make our plans. Since we are basically neighbors we should make a point to get together (you should have my tel#). I plan on spending a lot of time at my boat over the next couple of weeks getting her ready for launch.

I did a quick search in this thread, but did not find much. So I apologize if this has been covered a bunch.

This boat is new to me, but I am not new to boating by any means.

Looking for recommendations on battery replacements. I currently have wet cell batteries and am not looking to have to change any hardware (which I believe would be necessary if I went to AGM or something like that).

I have 4 batteries currently (appears to be the factory configuration?). Can anyone explain to me how everything is distributed (I bought the boat in late October last year, so I have literally been on it once). I assume 1 dedicated to the gen, 2 to either port/stb and the house, and then the last to the other motor (port/stb)?

So if I am on the hook and run the house batteries down with the stereo or whatever, the gen should at least start (dedicated battery) and then I could use the "A/C converter" to charge the other batteries?

I have also heard mention of some sort of switch on the dash to start a motor from the other motors battery? Almost like a jumper?

Please excuse my ignorance on this set up, but I would very much appreciate an explanation on how this set up works. As well as what sort of battery specs you run for each battery.

Thank you very much!

Depends on your particular charger but AGM probably are OK but Gel would more than likely require a swap of charger.

Next to your two ignition switches is a third "Carling" type switch - that switch is the emergency start/battery crossover switch. If one bank is dead it can be used to tie the other good bank in for starting by hold it down while pressing this ignition.
