OFFICIAL 250 DANCER THREAD

Need Photos - HELP! ... IF someone here with a 98 250DA could take a picture of the captains seat from the side, I would appreciate that. THANKS!

I have the boat & can certainly shoot a picture & send it to you. I'm not sure if I'm going up this weekend or not though so I may not be of much help. I'll shoot it. If you still need it, I'll share it.

I need my rear bench done in a bad way but cant find anyone to do it. I'd pay a premium to have it done right, but I guess I can check your guy in Florida off the list now.

Wow - that would be great. How much would you want for it? Thanks, Pete.

I was cleaning out my garage and found Camper Canvas and a Cockpit Cover for my previous 1997 250 Sundancer. I never used any of it so outside of age, the condition is excellent. It's a Tan color

If anyone would be interested, let me know.

yes - a view from the side of the captains bench showing the angle of the wrap-around cushion. That would be perfect. Thanks.
The upholstery shop is coming out to take measrements, but I still need a photo to shw them what it is supposed to look like

sounds tempting - I'm in Florida so if you have someone closer to you, that would be better.

Hi Scuma, Is the cockpit cover still available? I would be very interested :smt001 Thanks, Pete.

I am in the process of purchasing a 1991 250 Sundancer. When I took my first look at the boat I found a fair amount of water staining in the cabin headliner. The stains are all the way around the cabin closest the the outside walls of the cabin. The owner told me he was of the impression the staining was caused by water leaking around the base of the stanchions on the deck. New to this line of boat, I'm wondering if this is a common problem with this model in this year. Any suggestions for stopping the leaks ? Comments or thoughts on the issue ? Is it as simple as a using a good caulk, not knowing with the boat not in my possession yet. I'm sure the surveyor will have some comments in his report. I'll be sure he checks the moisture content in the deck in those areas.

Hey guys, I was just wondering what the farthest cruise anyone has done in there 250 dancer? I would love to hear stories and maybe get inspired. My longest was 100 mile roundtrip day trip.

I am not a long range boater but a friend & slip neighbor of mine has made the trip from Guntersville to Chattanooga several times. You can check the mileage but off the top of my head I'll guess 120 miles & 2 locks each way. Goose Pond Colony/Marina, my marina, is a great place if you are looking for a weekend getaway trip. Golf, restaurant, fishing, full service marina.

I took a nice 2+ week trip from the Poughkeepsie area of the Hudson River, north to the Erie Canal, west on the Erie Canal across Onieda Lake, north to Lake Ontario, across Lake Ontario to 1000 Islands, North East on the St Lawrence to Montreal, South on the Richelieu River, South through Lake Champlain, South on the Champlain Canal and continue South on the Hudson River back to Poughkeepsie. Probably 800 miles or so.

There were nearly 100 locks we went through. Slept on the boat every night, mostly always at a marina but a few times tied to a lock wall. Three people total, myself and two young teenagers. Lots of fun! :)

Only issue I had was that the large freighters on the St. Lawrence would temporarily kill my Lowrance GPS. I don't know if they had some high power radar or something, but nearly every time they approached me I would loose signal for about 10 minutes - that was a little uncomfortable in unknown waters. Each time I would eventually regain the GPS signal again after the freighter passed?

The 250 has enough room for a nice extended trip - enjoy it!

Sounds like an amazing time. Definitely need to do a few extended cruises.

Hi, all!

New to me 1990 250 DA - Merc 7.4

Two questions:
1 - Lower bilge pump, wired to float and manual switch on dash. When turning switch on on the dash, a DC breaker in engine "room" trips. Causes? Bad pump?
2 - 2 Battery setup. Haven't done a lot of running, and have left battery switch on "all". Yesterday we went out, turned to "2" to listen to tunes and not risk not starting. When on 2 found battery dead. Battery was good when she went in the water a couple of weeks ago. Bad charger? How do I go about testing, troubleshooting!

Thanks for any guidance!

First off - Welcome to CSR!

1. If the pump itself is locked up it would trip the breaker but that is not the only possible culprit. Is/was there water surrounding the pump? Do you hear it cut on & then pop the breaker or is it instant? With the boat being new to you & not knowing how long this has been going on, the pump is the place to start though. I'd imagine access might be difficult but I say pull the pump & test it & replace it if necessary.

2. Just because a battery was "good" a couple of weeks ago doesnt mean it can hold a charge. Take both batteries & have them tested before you consider replacing the charger. Since the boat has been sitting a while I'll bet $20 that the battery can hold enough juice to power a radio but not to crank the engine.

Thanks for the welcome!

There was water around the pump - lifted the float of the second pump to clear it out. When I turned the dash switch on, I couldn't ever hear the pump run, but there was a 10 second delay before the DC breaker tripped... Seller has been quite helpful, thought maybe bad switch? Suggested testing float (under the engine) to see if pump activates. Need to grow 12" on my right arm to reach the float.

Thanks for the guidance on the battery. Will pull and test both to see what's going on. Is it safe to assume that with the battery switch on "all" and connected to shore power, both batteries would be charging?

Thanks again!

I had battery problems with my 98 250DA. Your setup may be different but on mine both the charger and the alternator needed replacing. You have to look to see how your charger connects to batteries. Mine went direct so the battery switch didn't matter

But when the motors running you want switch set to both so that alternator charges both batts. Your dash should show over 12-13 volts with motor at 1500 rpm or else I would suspect the alternator
