Official 290 Sundancer Thread

i have a friend that is interested in your glass. I am not sure how to PM although I did try to send you info with a phone number. Please let me know if you received the info or how to PM you.
Thanks
Thank you again, Calling Curt now

@Mark Wardle: I'm a bit confused what you want a spare of? You said anchor but took pictures of the windlass. You should be able to measure the anchor and find any delta anchor replacement.

Speaking of windlass: I have been having a terrible time getting my rope to chain splice to feed up through the windlass. It tends to bunch up as it makes it's last 90 degree turn down into the storage locker. We have gone through 4 or 5 attempts at splicing it to no success. Can anyone take some good pictures of their splice? I am curious if I can get some tips how its made by looking at it. I even emailed Quick regarding it since I wanted to order a new spring arm to see if that would help. They identified the pic I sent them as a Aster or Chrystal (the tops are the same). It looks same as yours. They said that the gypsy requires ¼” G43 chain and ½” windlass rope. They suggested I buy their chain/rope pre-splice which is guaranteed to work with their windlass. But at $465, I'm a bit hesitant. I'm going to try turning the rope around next, to see if the other unused end is a more pliable.
I have similar issues and have looked for some suggestions. My rope does tend to be on the stiff side and have read a apparent fix which is to soak rope in some fabric softener for at least 24hrs. I will end up replacing my rope and chain setup as I have just started diving off mine so require longer rope from what is already installed. That is very pricey as my local shop can supply 100 mtr rope and 10 mtr chain for $250 Australian.

Currently my 290 has a custom mattress in the V-berth. The prior owner had this mattress made. I’m looking for the cushions to restore the v-berth. Looking for anyone parting out a 290 or where I maybe able to find the v-berth cushions.

You might want to post this to the Official 1998 290 Thread, which covers your version of the 290.
I wish you luck with finding the cushions you are looking for. I suspect that the previous Owner modified the v-berth area on your boat to make it longer. I considered it with my 290. If you go back to the stock layout, you will loose bed length. If you haven't already, consider sleeping on this decision. I can get you a measurement of the stock layout bed length if you would like.

Thanks, I’ll post it there too. We don’t sleep on her often. When we do the grandkids usually sleep in the V-berth. If you have the measurements that would be great! We may have to buy the foam and have it upholstered.

What part of the country do you live in. I might be interested in your mattress if you are not too far away. Thanks

Yep, its plug and play and a perfect fit. The remote MW1 fits perfect too but I will need to pull a new 8 pin cable to the M608. I’m having same fading issue so I will plan on replacing amp and all speakers, adding two speakers facing swim platform.

I am looking to add the same Clarion unit and remote. Did you end up running the new 8 pin cable? Was that necessary to connect the new remote? My factory remotes (dash and swim platform) still work. I wonder if they will work with a new head unit?

If anyone has any insight I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks!

Try calling Crutchfield, they should be able to match up your head unit with another plug and play if available.

Your in the right church there Beachbob.......But your in the wrong pew.
There is a sub forum which would cover your version of the 290.

I thought I would share a few more upgrades I've been working on. First is my continuous quest to get rid of all steel prone to rust in the engine room. My fire extinguisher bracket was badly rusting and causing dark rust stains down the transom. Removed the old bracket and cleaned the area and transom inside with muriatic acid. I went a little too agressive with the acid and may have eaten away some of the corrosive properties of my stainless trim brackets since they had surface rust on them a week later.

For the fire extinguisher bracket I ordered 0.125" x 2" wide 316 stainless bar and had a friend weld it together to allow the straps to pass under the bracket. Pop rivetted the straps in like the originals and added some 1/8" foam.

And best part the fire extinguisher did not go off during the upgrade!

Got my helm makeover completed :) Love the Raymarine Axiom's and the new panels! Had to get rid of that old school wood grain look! She looks so much better now :)

Indeed it does. I looked back at you other messages and I might have skipped over one telling what material you used and source. DIY'ed or were they purchased ready to install?

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris, I used Tecnografic out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. They are the OEM panel manufacturer for Sea Ray...so they have all the correct factory templates on file. I just called them up and told them what I wanted...Sam sent me a PDF with the Axiom layout to verify I liked the placement. From there I picked out a new coating and sent in my top gauge panel and switch pad covers to have them redone to match the new instrument panel. They had it done in about 2 weeks...not cheap...but what is in this hobby right?!?! LoL
