Official 330 Express Cruiser / 340 Amberjack 1997-2003 Thread

Has anyone changed the cabin ceiling lights? My dad has a 02 34 Amberjack and wants to convert them to LED bulbs. How do you remove/open the fixture to get at the bulbs? Anyone have the bulb info?

Thanks
Chris

Those lights are fluorescent old-school fixture set up ,if you grab either side of the lens in the ceiling and pull down they just snap in and out thought about changing that myself

Not sure how to do this. But I just purchased a 2001 34 amberjack and received it just after the holiday so I have some work to do befor it hits the water. I have answered many questions on this thread already. Just wondering what people are getting for trolling speed plan on usin this boat for family cruising and fishing?

Well that depends on wind and current but when I Fish for striped bass I usually one troll with one motor in gear appx 2.8-3.0 mph ,with both motors it’s about 3.8-4.2 mph .what ya fishing for?

We are in the Great Lakes so lake trout and salmon the 2.8-3.0 is good was just wondering if I needed trolling bags

Hi. I am in the same situation. I bought a 97 330 EC late summer last year and am rigging it for Lake Erie trolling before this season starts.

I checked speed last fall. With one motor was in the low 3’s into the wind and mid-high 3’s with a following wind. I’m planning to pick up a set of 36” bags to get her down to walleye and laker speeds. (2-2.5 mph).

Thanks for the info I will most likely get bags and shop for them this winter are you just running rod holders or any down riggers ?

I sold my last boat fully rigged, so I am in the process of outfitting our new boat.

I had Cannon Mag 10s on the last one and liked them a lot, but decided to upgrade to Cannon Digi troll 5s (have 2 in boxes at my house now).

I still have to get rod holders and figure out how/where to mount a planer board setup.

I am pretty certain I am going to get Muddy Creek Rod Holders. These as well as the riggers will be gimbal mounted using the flush mounts the boat has. (I have 6 flush mounts).

Not sure if I want to spend the $$ for electric planer reels. I do know that I don’t want a permanent mast on the boat. Wifey likes it un-fished looking on beach days.

My boat came from NJ and has a real nice set of outriggers. I am going to try to run 10 color off these for lakers this spring. Not sure I’ll use them much for fresh water fishing, but the boat looks cool with them....

I bought 36" bags and upgraded to 48" very next year to get speed slower, much better plus running a bit more RPM is always a good thing if you need too. I Definitely recommend the bigger bags.

Where do you tie on the bags? I assume not off the transom but on a side/forward cleat?

Love that sportsman version of the 340! Thanks for the picture. That was where I thought. On my 330 I turn off one engine and troll on the one. It trolls about 2.5 to 3mph so not too bad. I do worry a bit about wearing out the shaft seals so I switch engines all day (helps balance the hour meters too).

Do you notice any loss of electric power at idle speeds? My Star side drops to below 12 volts if I don't go at least 750 RPMs.

Not at all. The voltage stays up with either engine running. And I run the full electronics including the radar. I do find that the Walker downriggers draw a lot of power when pulling the balls up and that dips the voltage temporarily.

What were your speeds with 36” bags and the 48”s on one motor. My boat has the 7.4s, but I am not sure it make much of a difference at idle speeds?

I’d like the ability to be at 1.5 mph for lake trout and upper 2’s for late summer eyes.

Thanks.

I think I have to check in to a new alternator or perhaps add another battery as well..

I was about 2.8 SOG, I still can't get below 2. Early spring they like it slow.

Wow fantastic boat somebody gave that boat a lot of love I have only seen one other 330 with diesel’s and it is actually in New Jersey just met the gentleman through fakebook .I have seen a 370 express with the full hardtop and tuna tower in Puerto Rico I think they were asking 110,000 .I just did a full repower on mine last year stuck with gas ,though diesels would’ve been nice just wasn’t in the budget In the process of rebedding all the hardware over the winter At our vintage boats it’s a good idea to go over all of the through deck penetrations
