Official 330 Sundancer Thread

My friend has a 2008 330 and doesn't know where his A/C unit is located. He believes its in the engine compartment. Is that true..? I haven't been able to get on his boat to look or find a schematic to look myself. His air filter is in the overhead of the aft sette area on the port side, and his condensate discharge is under the deck in front of the stairs. But where is the A/C unit itself?

If you could send me an e-mail reply, it would be appreciated. Paul Fineberg (paul_g_fineberg@raytheon.com)

I had a feeling I'd be reading this for a third time.

I got a 1998 330 2 years ago from a guy in OK that only had 146 hours on it. Love it. I have had it for 2 years on labor day and it now has 350 hours on it. Needless to say....it get used....

Question for you 96-99 330 owners. I have found a soft spot right next to my forward hatch. Just wondering if any of you have found this situation. Reason I ask is years ago when we were shopping for a new boat and looking at the 330 we came across another 97 330 with a similar issue, but Sea Ray fixed the issue by pulling down the headliner, cutting out the fiberglass and rotted core. Replacing and reglassing from the bottom. The dealer at the time said something to the affect that the hatch opening was not cut correctly in the deck and so the hatch itself was misaligned at the factory and caused the issue.

Just wondering.. Also I don't have any visible water issue there now so I am wondering what is going on perhaps they sealed the leak but failed to fix the real issue... What would be the prefered method of fixing this... Like to take care of it over the winter.

Thanks!!

Hi Tony , Any luck getting your vent covers? I am currently in need of the port side cover for my 97 330. Thanks. Todd

Hello from Kelowna British Columbia.

Margy and Bill Sparks will be putting our 1997 330DA (Marbilous) away on the 13th for the winter. :smt089 We will put it in heated inside storage. I agree that summer is never long enough but we had a great first year with the boat after trading our Crownline 255 CCR. Love the new boat and hope to pick up some good tips from this thread.

Thanks

:smt038 WOW that is a great improvement. I get 24K at 3200RPM on my 7.4L engines. You must be more fuel efficient now! Would you credit it to the new tabs or the re-worked props?

Both. The props are smooth as silk throughout the power band. The tabs are a God send. I took her to my new marina over labor day weekend. I told my friend to drive as I had a TON of cleaning to do from her being on the hard all summer. He went with me on the exact same trip last year. He said it was like driving a different boat. Last year the trip took me 1/2 tank of fuel. This year it took me just over a 1/4 of a tank. Both trips were made with full fuel and water and provisions for the weekend. I have attached some pix of the new tabs. they are 22X18. The drop edges on the left and right are just shy of 2 inches. At 396 square inches, they are right about where they should be based on Bennetts sizing charts. New zincs went on before she was splashed.

A "before and after" shot from the top. It gives you an idea of what was required vs. what was provided.

There is really no room on the hull to fit the Bennett recommended tab size. So compared to buying and installing an ineffecient fix, this was a very cost and functionally effective fix.

Newbie 330 owner here. How do you guys go about winterizing the cockpit ice maker? Specifically, how do you go about disconnecting the water line that feeds it. I took a quick and dirty look at it, and it looks like SeaRay built the boat around it.

Hi all! Hailing from Long Island NY here. Getting my boat out this week. Need some maint. & gel coat work. Figured I'd get it done now because these guys are always swamped in the spring. May add a 26" flat panel tv over aft cabin. Installed tracvision this year & love it!!!

:smt021 Now I don't how I missed your post so sorry for the delay in responding...

WELCOME to the 13 year old whale 15mm fittings in a hot engine room club. I have most of mine now replaced on the water heater and the fresh water pump. As soon as you touch those things they will not seat properly again and start to leak due to their age. The O ring and the grey collar that sits in the fitting are what need to be replaced, the finger on the collar will crack and break first causing it to not hold the PEX pipe in there tight and suck air or blow water under pressure. I think they are whale fittings and I don't believe that the parts that FWS sells (collars and O rings) may or may not fit. Its easier by far to just buy the whole 15mm fitting then you are sure of no hassles for some time.

www.freshwatersystems.com is your friend. They have all the neat 15mm fittings you could want. Or you can check with your local dealer to see what they stock. The threaded connectors are 1/2 NPT fittings and FWS has 15mm to 1/2 NPT fittings. You may have a copper nipple on the hot water heater that is a 1/2 NPT to 15mm tube that the connectors push onto. If you do anything, first thing I would try is to clean that tube, the tube has to be clean for a good seal. If still no luck you can get the 15mm fittings from FWS and get some T's and 90 degree ones and replace them all while you are down there... It will cost around $50 but it is well worth the time and effort to have a fresh water system that works. It took me 3 weeks of fiddling around and now finally (fingers crossed) its working and no leaks...

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!
Hey Tom, This is my first season with my 97 330 DA. Aside from the pressing issue of replacing a port side bilge vent cover damaged on Labor Day ( I've posted all over this site) I also have a fresh water issue. When hooked to shore water I'm good, great pressure. When using onboared tank via water system, my pressure is terrible and spurts alot of air. Now I'm coming from a 79 260 DA and it's night and day in these 2 bilges. I think I hear some air sucking toward the port side. do you think its these old whale fittings? Thanks. Todd

A lot depends on how you are going to winterize. Many do so with compressed air. If you do it that way, leave the compressor hooked up for a couple of cycles of the ice maker and instead of water you will get air. Job done. If not, about a gallon of cheap vodka will work as well.

Shore and on board water are an apples and oranges comparison as the shore water is introduced into the system after the fresh water water pump.

Check the pump itself. Your problem sounds as if the pump diaphram is damaged. It is a cheap fix. If this is the problem and you are shy of fixing it on board, buy a new pump and fix the existing one at home and keep it as a spare. They go at the worst time.

I would guess you are most likely sucking in air on the supply side of the pump if it affects each faucet the same way. I would suspect it could be the fitting right at the supply side of the pump, the filter/screen might have a crack, or maybe its the fitting on the output of the tank.

I know for me it is a bit of a pain to get at the bottom of that pump!!! If there is a leak on output side somewhere then you would see the water leaking out and hear the hiss. If you don't see that I would bet its on the supply side.

Yeah, my wife wants to get rid of it too and replace it with a refrigerator. Told her that is not in the cards yet. Still have to figure out how to get the waterline disconnected.

This is what I came up with ,I by pass the water heater and after blowing the fresh water system out,I connect a hose to the suction side of the fresh water pump and put the hose in a bottle or two of pink anti- freeze. Then turn the pump on until the system pressurizes(you may need a few gallons ).Open the cockpit sink faucet until you get pink ,then turn on the ice maker and let it run,it will dump cubes and eventually youll get pink ones .shut it down your done.Hope this helps.
