By transmission, do you mean where the shaft comes through the hull, beneath the engine? If so that is called the dripless shaft seal. The tubes running to it bring seawater to the seal to cool the spinning shaft. If water drips out from the 1/2" hose that feeds the shaft seal, you have a leak there. If water drips from the point where the shaft passes through the seal you have a bad seal.

Watch this 2 minute vid and it may make things clearer.

If you are talking about a thin cylinder above the transmission that's leaking water, that is the transmission fluid cooler. It also has hoses going to and from it but they are much larger diameter. If water is leaking ABOVE the transmission, it's the cooler. If water is leaking below it's the dripless shaft seal.

Here's a pic of the dripless (this is an older type which I've since replaced)...

This is the transmission oil cooler (horizontal tube with hoses on either side)

Thanks for all the info everyone. I did stumble across that Tides shaft seal video which was very helpful. The water is coming out where that black plastic piece with the five screws are. That lead me to believe it was the piece inside of that tube (gasket, there is a more technical name for it, but it escapes me right now) that is leaking. Unfortunately there is no spare on the shaft, so I ordered to gaskets and two spares to put on the shaft. Hopefully this will take care of it.

Does anyone know how the spotlight coax cable is run from helm to bow of boat? It's been determined that there is something wrong with mine. Is there any connections or junctions I could check? Any info would be appreciated.

Does anyone know what changed between 2002 and 2003 that caused the dry weight of the boat to increase from 18,300 lbs to 20000 lbs? Not really seeing where 1700 lbs went into...

I'm getting water into the lazarette through, I THINK, the white transom running light. The water then runs down along the light's wire, which goes through a hole drilled in the floor of the lazarette. That leads to the engine room. The water then drips down into the aft sump. With a good rain I'm getting probably 2 liters or more of water. I tried caulking (4200) around the wire as it passes through into the ER but to no avail. My misery would like some company...

Does an 01 380 water heater have a heat exchanger which is heated by a running engine? Don't see hoses on parts layout and if so, which engine is connected to it?

Thanks,

Mine doesn't. I just figured it's bc if it were to fail you could flood the cabin space with seawater (?)

Has anyone ever removed wiper motor? Access to all the screws is difficult on my boat? I don't think my access port lines up exactly where it needs to be. Does a ceiling panel need to be removed as well?

Hi all, new guy here. Sale pending on an '01 380DA here in CT. Hoping to be the new owner Nov. 15th. Pre-sale survey is Wednesday the 8th. Sweating both the survey and the loan! LOL The boat is immaculate and the engines have very low hours. I can almost hear the brokers say it was driven by a little old lady only on Sundays to church.....LMAO

Sounds like you found a winner. Best of luck with the process.

Thanks!! One ?, has anyone had an issue with the clear coat on the 'wood' cabinets? It's cracked on the curved part of the cabinet that holds the tv above the fridge? Any way of repairing it? And I've read a few posts here that almost sound like having 7.4 mercruisers are like the kiss of death! LOL Anyhow, I will definitely be putting in a flush system over the winter using saltaway or neutra salt.

Can’t help with the cabinet, although I believe there is a vendor on here that sells the product you need, but the bit of insight I get in to the 380’s with the 7.4’s is that you want to make sure the exhaust was retrofitted with the water lift mufflers system to avoid water ingestion.

Like they told me when I joined the site....It didn't really happen till you post a picture. Congrats and good luck on the new boat.

Anyone have any info on the light inside the breaker panel box, in the cabin (2007). I thought my bulb was just out, but it turns out the wires dont have power and I'm not sure what switched it on. Panel door? Or the step light switch? etc..
I was just going to put new led fixture in but i have to solve the power issue.

Hello All. Just Purchased 2000 380 waiting on snow removal and movement of some boats to take delivery. Looking for some insight on Cockpit Cushions Can I buy New skins? Can I get Matching material for a upholstery shop to Remake? Thanks to all for any information provided

Recovered my cockpit seat cushions in June 17, very good match however the grain was diminished compared to original. Can’t notice difference when installed. 5 cushions covered for under $700.
I used a local marine upholstery company. DBA Overboard Design in Buford, GA

WOW. Great price. A friiend had all his cockpit stuff redone in his 410DA, including those upholstered side panels, and it was around $4k.
