Official 380 Thread

I've been replacing and updating stuff on my boat, I have an original steering wheel and all the interior lights off my 380 if anyone is interested......,
Hi do you still have the steering wheel? What do you want for it and can you send some pictures?

I have been loving my Magna Original 15 in BBQ. I got the Magma fishing pole mount with an extension. I put it in the aft Starboard mount and it is in an out of the way place outside. Before with the old one, I had to open the side curtain and it would still smoke out the cockpit.

We had a rectangular one that came with the boat but the regulator died and I could not find a replacement. Plus the bbq was pretty shot. The Magma is 10 times better for us.

So I want to stop using the 1 lb cartridges and go with a 5 lb refillable tank with a hose. Anyone else using this type? I will put the tank in the aft locker and run the hose out the shore power hole on the Starboard side.

Cheers!

I have struggled with grills. My buddy had a magma rectangular shaped and I have a kuuma. Both have no heat control, just cook hot as hell.... I had wanted to upgrade to a magma, but when I spoke to him about his results, I decided just to suffer with the one I have....

How is the temp control on the kettle?

The temp control seems to work well. I usually pre cook the potatoes at home in the microwave to about 80% done. Then throw them on the grill in aluminum foil on low. When they seem to be cooked, I will put on the steaks or whatever.

Someone said they got a lot more heat when using a 5 lb tank and hose...The Magma bbqs will get plenty hot...don't need more.

So far the regulator works really well.

Cheers!

I am thinking about putting LED courtesy lighting under the aft cockpit seating area for our night cruises. The existing red lights that came from the builder don't seem to do much. We could keep the aft part of the boat somewhat lit, but at the helm station, my night vision would not be washed out. So... 2 questions:

Where to route 16/2 speaker wire for the low duty current draw to light the LED's. I can have the power tap end of the LED's starboard or port-aft/fore in the cockpit. I would prefer not to drill any holes, but if needed, that is what I will do and seal the opening to withstand water intrusion (which I don't ever see happening w the aft canvass).

Where would you tap for 12v power once inside the bilge area? The system will have a main power switch removing power draw when not in use.

Any suggestions/idea's or past experience is welcomed.

Thank you,
Vince

Hey Vince

could be as simple as adding a breaker in the 12 volt panel in the bilge. I know it’s low power, hate to waste a breaker spot....

where are you installing the switch that controls the speaker lights? If at the helm, what about tapping the hot side of the courtesy or arch lights?

I always thought, if I did this, I would just put the speaker lights with the courtesy lights....

Good luck, let us know what you end us deciding

Hi Chris.

Thanks for checking in on my lil project. I like the idea of going to the 12 volt panel on the bulkhead down in the bilge. The system has a remote control that uses RF instead of Infra-Red. It should go through the deck with no issues. Not sure where I am going to install the master switch yet... looking to make it simple, safe and smart. I do like the idea of using the existing courtesy lights though.

Thanks,
V

Has anyone replaced the bulbs in the 3” lights in the cabin with G4 LED bulbs? I bought G4 leds that another 380 guy recommended and said worked for his 380 but the bulbs are about a quarter inch too long to permit the puck from seating back in the threads. Does anyone have a G4 LED bulb recommendation that will work on an 01 380?

These are what I ended up using. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01533LMX2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are about 90% as bright as the halogens, use a fraction of the power and are an acceptable color to me (a relatively warm white). They are also inexpensive. I tried other LEDs, brighter, but did not fit in fixture. I have yet to find a LED replacement bulb that is as bright as the original and fits. If you do, please let me know!

Iirc, I had the same issue on the first Batch I ordered and someone on here suggested cutting the terminals off enough to fit. I then ordered these

I have replaced all the bulbs in the boat with LED. I pull out the old bulb and get some measurements and find a bulb on Amazon that is the same. We have had zero issues and we have enough light. Cannot say if they are lower output. They sure run cooler! I would like to have a bit more output in the reading lights in the stateroom...my eyes are needing more light...getting older!

I did replace the ones in the bilge recently. The only ones left are the running lights. I will have to get after those one of these days. The only one that bothers me is the anchor light as it runs a long time and is on battery.

Got a call back on the generator issue and will post up results on what they find.

Cheers!

Go to superbrightled.com. Here are the part numbers and quantities for all the interior fixtures on the 380. These work great. Fit perfectly.

I tried these last year and struggled getting the pins into the socket before the diameter of the lamp hit the sides of the reflector. The pins were about a quarter inch or so too short. Was there a trick to getting them to fit?

I bought all my led's from Marinebeam which fitted perfectly. Cost a little more but all good after circa 3.5 years and very pleased with the colour rendering.

Link to the G4's which I bought in warm white and are brighter than the original halogens. If that isn't enough light for you, they are also available in the 12 led version.

That's interesting... The description of the lamp says it has "extra long back pins", important for these fixtures.

I removed the reflectors now that I think about it. It did not effect the light because the lamps are down facing.

Yes long pins are important because it is a disc led which needs to clear the conical shaped reflector. If the pins are too short you can't install the globe unless you remove the reflector.
