Official 380 Thread

So a little news flash. The generator needed spark plugs...it now powers every possible item on the boat at once.

Dunno why the plugs were bad but it's working great now. I do need to replace or rebuild the raw water pump.

A Westerbeke rebuild kit is $225 plus shipping or a new Johnson pump is $175. I think Johnson is the OE.

Anyone have experience with these? I am going to have to put some of my home brew liquid wrench on the bolts...lots of rust on them. I use 50% acetone with 50% ATF. I will drizzle some on over the next few weeks so they will come out.

Maybe then I will clean the bilge!!!! I am motivated juggernaut!

Has anyone used a Clean Way Fuel Filler Kit to avoid the spills from the gas burping out at the filler?

I almost always seen to under fill the tanks from fear of spilling or burp out a bunch and take the wax off the stern and end up with fuel in the water

I want to order one but thought I would ask. BTW, non-ethanol fuel is $2.31 per gallon if you buy more than 100 gallons. Lowest I have ever seen...

Cheers!

So, genny is been an issue since last summer. Some days runs perfect. Some days won’t start at all. Other days runs for a min and dies.

My skinny friend jumped in there today, started chasing the fuel...
Ends up the load side of the fuel pump was about 1/4 turn loose, allowing a little gas to spray out (no odor at all), then lose the pressure, so it was trying to re-prime the line to the carb.... starts every time now. So happy!

Ha, the guy I had out really had to get physical with the access...

I just ordered the Johnson pump from Marine Engine Direct in Fairfield, CA.

It is a direct replacement for the original but only has a 1/2 cam in it. The 1/1 cam is not available right now.

It will only be an issue if I am in warm water...not gonna happen. I may order up the 1/1 cam when the plague lifts and they are available...just in case.

I will post an update when I dig into the RnR of the pump.

Cheers!

Never seen this, if it works it would be awesome, i always stop at F on the gauge, i know i could get 5 or more gallons in there.... for $50 it looks like its worth a shot

I've also used the gauge because the one time I didn't I had fuel come out my vent. This device looks interesting but I don't see how this would prevent that.

I do not know if I have ever had it come out the vent...I don't think so. It has burped out right at the fill bung.

Who has installed nmea 2k network/backbone in their 380’s?

looking for pics/ advice/ material list etc

TIA
Chris

Just got this boat in October and only fueled up once which is when the gas came out the vent. I had also never seen that before with any other boat.

Thanks.

I got an email and the fuel filler spill preventer has shipped. If it gets here by Thursday, I will be able to use it as we are going to fill up on Friday. BTW, one of our close by fuel docks just got a shipment of fuel and it is priced based on the collapse of oil prices. $2.31 a gallon...60 cents lower than the other fuel docks around here.

Chris, back on page 80 or so there was a discussion about networks...

THANK YOU!

Hey Chris,
I was mistaken about being able to find out on the Fox website from the engine serial number which MEFI version ECM you have. However, I unbolted mine from the engine and used the number on the back of the ECM to find the corresponding information on the website which tells you which ECM it is.

I did not need the Garmin Fuel Flow Meters in order to show Fuel Flow.

Paul
Did you buy the oil pressure sensors?

Hi Chris...I actually just had this done but I paid an installer to do it so can't offer any words of wisdom for you. But it is the nuts when it's done. I installed an axiom 12 and an axiom 7 along with the Quantum radar. Haven't launched yet so I haven't tested the engine data.

that's beautiful!

Hello everyone I am currently changing electronics on My 2002 380 New MFD Radar VHF ETC I am setting up a NEMA 2000 system and tips or tricks to bring wiring from Bilge for Transducer to helm and Wiring from radar to Helm? Thank You

Piece of cake, remove the cubby to the starboard side of the helm seat. Put your head in the hole, look aft, you will see the top of the starboard fuel tank, look forward and you will see the cables going up behind the dash

This ^

I ran wires through a corrugated conduit that runs right past the dash and cockpit heat exchanger that is right inside when you remove the cubby.

I had an existing 840xs Garmin and added a 1242xsv with the radar dome. I did not need any other items so Garmin just recommended that I run a network cable between the two. They both share the sonar transducer connected to the 840 and the radar connected to the 1242.

I am not going to try to set up the engine monitoring stuff on a network. Fuel consumption and oil pressure etc is more to worry about....!

Cheers!

Thanks Guys I appreciate the input . I am installing a 1242 as well I also am installing fuel consumption and trim Tab position sensors as well I also am adding two GMI 20s to break out different data .
