Official 400EC thread

Thanks! I don't store anything in front on the generator, and I do agree with you about what a PITA it is to roll up the carpet. I'm going to cut my flooring around the hatch to the generator as well. If you have a picture, I'd love to see it.

Did not see this post until now. I will try to get a picture for you later tonight.

I had the carpet opening cut larger than the hatch so that when it is in place it covers the hatch opening completely for a bit of sound deadening.

Here is the finished product. Bought the marine finish.
My door is a little different that yours so I has to make a special cut to inset the strike. Used a grinder and a Dremel with a cutoff blade. Also had to grind off tabs inside the door.

I believe we have the same salon sliding door. I did not remove the OEM taps.

That looks great!

I just bought a sewing machine and plan to get my feet wet with the flooring. Are the aft bottom edges of your helm station and passenger station even with each other? I just made my templates and my port side station sits about 2 inches back from where the starboard station sits. I keep waffling on where to put the break in the flooring.

My port seat sits back about 1" compared to the starboard seat. I made the cut lining up with the back of the starboard side.

The port side cupholders I’ve seen, but only with the wrap around seating. The Stbd cupholders are a new one for me.

Saw a nice 400 EC for sale on Craigslist here in Dallas. Here's the listing if you know someone that wants to join the club

Looks like some work done in the cockpit. I love the cupholders on the rear bench. Is this custom work, or was this a Searay option?

Looks nice, but I wonder how much abuse the EVA foam decking will take when having to move either seat to open a engine hatch?

Just came across these door parts on my 94 400 Express ‘Free Bird’. In 2012 I ordered a replacement door and also ordered extra parts to keep aboard. As we all know how temperamental these doors can be...I still like it as I can see out when down below. These parts aren’t for sale but thought someone might want to check and see if these parts and possibly even the door is still available. Love my ol girl!

Ok. I need the wisdom of the group

We were lighting up the boat for the Christmas boat parade and we lost power on one side of the boat. The owners manual says there is a GFI in the Galley, Salon and Head, but I was only able to find the one in the head. Can anyone tell me where the other two are?

My gallery GFI is to the right of the sink. Just below the counter. If I have one in the salon I haven't found it yet. . . Surprised you found the one in the head. I had an awful time finding mind when it tripped.

Awesome information. Where did you find them? I have a 94, so I assume these would be really close.
I emailed Sea Ray and they forwarded. Did it a few months after I bought my boat, but almost forgot I had it.

Longer post, stick with me to the end, I'll appreciate it:
One thousand, one hundred, and fifty-four posts on this forum...and I've read most in detail, and at least skimmed over all of the rest of them (mostly the Cat stuff), over the last couple of days.

Hell...I feel like I know half of you guys. And I know for a fact I owe at least half of you a beer, or a cup of coffee, for the vast amount of education I've gleaned from you. Best/most positive/most supportive/most knowledgeable forum I've ever had the pleasure to take part in, thank you...I look forward to contributing as best I can in the future.

Not a new boat family...Glastron back in the 70's, Sea Ray 94 Bowrider 220, '05 Sundeck 240. Lots of time on an '05 Sundancer 320.

Just closed on a '93 400EC, and we're already in love. Good structure, good legs, couldn't be happier...even with lots of little issues to address.

Long story short, we've ended up finding a home in a slip next door to the previous owner. Floating next door to us in a 99 Sundancer 450. He's given me the crash course in operations/panel-switches/shut-off valves, etc.

But here's my question to the collective:
He owned the boat for little more than a year, never winterized it, just using a space heater down in the bilge. We're on Table Rock in SW Missouri, so we get mild days, and they'd take it out through the winter. Starboard engine and tranny were replaced as soon as he bought it, and port side was replaced just before we bought it. Sea test completed a couple of weeks ago, all good. So I've got two brand new drivetrains.
I bought a Twin Hornet 45 700w Bilge Engine Compartment Heater which is currently installed. We are forecasted for our first hard freeze the next couple of days, down in the teens over night.

Both boats on either side of me, including the PO and the '88 Cruisers SB, are running their salon heaters set as low as they will go, in addition to a bilge heater.

I don't know enough yet about the HVAC system to know what should/shouldn't be running to turn my system on. Do I need water in the tank? Is it a simple matter of flipping the switch and setting the thermostat? Or do I even need it with a bilge heater running?

Any input would be much appreciated!

The HVAC are heat pumps all you should need is raw water running through them. You will see the discharge coming out a side port when running. One for each system.

We're in Texas but we do have some subfreezing nights. I leave my cabin thermostat at 55 and put an electric heater in the engine room at it's lowest setting. Have had no issues yet

BTW - welcome to the forum. You will love the boat. I bought mine 18 months ago and I am still learing all the features. When will we see some pic???

While we are on the subject of engine room heaters. I have a question fo8r the forum.

I was exploring the engine room and found an installed engine room heater. Have no idea if it works, or even how to work it. Is this something I can test? If so, how?

Was this standard on the EC?

If you find what kind of model it is, usually they have a port where you can spray a can of air duster on the thermostat to trigger the heater to turn on.
