Official 510 DA Owners Group

I took the Lind Jean out for a luncheon yesterday in Destin harbor. Weather was great, waters just right(all be it a tad chilly for my tastes) and the boat ran great.
Was thinking about beach hopping but what with Florida beaches closed and the local sherif shooing folks off the sand I'm thinking just cruising around will do.

Pictures Well we did snap a couple here and there but for some reason they aren't compatible with that ever works this site. (That or there just might be a slight touch of operator error). Anyway, I'll make a point of capturing my next outing in all it's cinematic glory. It will be like going to a neighbors how's and watching slide of their vacation to Yosemite

It was a good time. Not a lot of boats out. Usually we are all a bushel with water craft by this time. This season is going to be very odd.

Wow!!!

I have mucho catching up to do. I have not been getting any notifications about postings to this thread and just thought it was slow for the season. I must have hit the block button on my spam folder by mistake. Will fix that...

First, our best to everyone and your families.

Second, Woo, Hoo!!! We launched out of storage from Milwaukee on Tuesday during the warm weather. Can't get into Chicago Harbors until the covid closure is over, so, we're crashing in Kenosha. If we need to shelter, might as well be on the water. Lake Michigan can afford the ultimate in social distancing. Launch went off without much issue. Because this was our first launch out of winter storage, I had a tech from the marina help me with the run up. Great guy, but, I new more about the boat than he did. Which made me feel pretty good and confident I'd say. After properly turning on all fuel flow, both engines and generator started right up and ran like champs. The only issue I had was fresh water pump #1, a 24v Shurflo Blaster, kept running without actually pumping any water or shutting off. I elected to keep it off via breaker and worked on it later in the week. 2 pump system, so, minus one was ok as long as we didn't take showers and such. Turns out, a stuck pressure sensor from sitting all winter was the problem. Easy fix. The new electronics I installed over the winter, pic's in above post, worked flawlessly. Couldn't test them till we got out of the big metal building, so, was a bit nervous. Didn't need to be at all. The new depth finder was showing 47, 51, 49, 50, etc. in only like 8 feet of water. It was in Boat Show mode and just needed to be set properly in Dealer Calibration mode. My two daughters, their friend and I took the 2 1/2 hour cruise to Kenosha in light 2' +- chop, with about 40 min in very dense fog, with the utmost confidence. We had a blast... Our 510 simply commanded the water.

I'll chime in on a couple of past posts as they relate to our 2020 launch.

We so, so, so, love this boat. I also installed drop fins a few weeks ago wile in dry dock. I originally ordered the DF12 fins from Defender after reading many old posts from "Tabman" who used to own Bennet Marine (designed the tabs). Once received they were only 11 in Long and that didn't make sense for my 15 in chord (transom out) x 22 in long tabs. I followed their design, drew up a template and had a friend, who owns a SS steel shop, make me 14 1/2 inch chord tabs. I put on the boat and splashed without taking any pic's. Sorry, will add some soon... When I activated the trim tabs, there was an immediate noticeable difference. Before, the boat would slowly and almost with a bouncing motion, make her way to some resemblance of plane. Now, it's like someone is activating a hydraulic lift on the stern while pressing the bow down. There is a smooth, yet pronounced drop of the bow. The horizon opens right up. It looks like I got about 2 or so more mph with a wot of 33 mph. I'll test for sure once we get smooth water.

Another thing I did was add led bulbs to the running and anchor lights. That was a bitch of an exercise. I went through several companies that said they were 24v compatible, yet blew the bulb. Finally, I have several 31mm festoon and a few Bay15D bulbs that work.

OK guys, we'll see you on the water. Stay safe and healthy and let us know when you're out and about. Here are a few pics.

All The Best,

Walter & Ilona

A truly excellent post. Informative and interesting all at the same time. So glade you got out and back with all systems pretty much in tacht

I too had an issue with one of my fresh water pumps. I just changed it out for a new up dated one. Changed that filter out as well. Don't believe it had been touched for years.

The addition on the drop down fins dose wonders for how the boat handles. Make one wonder why SeaRay didn't apply such a simple modification at the factory.

Be really interesting getting your electronics all squared away. That was impressive how you got all your goodies together.

I've been itching to take Linda Jean out but weather, restrictions and family matters have kept us tied up. Was hoping on shoving off to the Bahamas trip this June. Don't think that's gonna happen. Bummer.

Thank you for the kind words.

I know this will all pass shortly. In the mean time, maybe you can find a deserted island on the way to the Bahama's where you can camp out for a week. That would be a nice trade for now. Self isolation on the water is still pretty amazing.

I'll keep everyone posted on how we're progressing with the spring boating season. This is a perfect example of how we plan to be boaters vs. dockers. I'm going to try to find every secluded nook and cranny out there... I'm in for the adventure... Stay healthy.

Ciao for now

Walter & Ilona

Here is some wiring info. Interesting how they put the power in this boat. Putting new goodies in the mix some times presents a challenge. Thought these PDF files might help.

Seems like one file exceeds the limit of this site. I'll figure something out.

Have any of you guys ever had to remove your washing machine asking for somebody online that’s not on here they’ve removed the cabinetry doors etc. but I’ve not been able to slide this puppy out Don’t mind the arrow I used it as a reference for what I thought was holding it in(2000) 510 dancer

Stephens013, I second the motion. Great .pdf

Carter. That is a fantastic looking boat. Really nice.
Thanks Walter. She has just been a perfect boat. We had been looking at Marlow 70’s, but I think we are going to stay here - as long as my “MAN man” doesn’t retire!!

That's awesome. Haven't seen one of those Service School pdf's. Wish I had one of those for the 550DA.

joeyleggz, I have not had to remove it. My suggestion would be to have your friends call Sea Ray support directly. Those guys are great with the older boats. (865) 522-4181 is the number... Good luck.

Great story, especially the part with the trim tabs. The 510 is a great boat but I wonder about the visibility from the helm while on plane. I have a flybridge boat now but like the look and most of what I heard so far about the 510.

What are your thoughts on forward facing visibility when compared to a flybridge/sedan boat?

Wow!!!

stephens013
Is there any chance you would have a similar guide for the 500 DA?

Thanks!

Sure don't. Not at all sure how close the 500 and 510 are in their electrical set up. Know that figuring out the where's and what's of the 510 pretty much maxed out my electrical knowledge

Shaps,

If you have an issue, throw it out there. Collectively, we, can probably get you some pretty good answers... Cheers and good luck. There is always the SR support team at the number I left a few posts back. They always have great info and old documents. Many of those folks worked on the big boats back in the day and are dying to share their knowledge...

Cheers and good luck.

Thank you WalterCarl.
My new to me boat is having some work done down south. There was an issue with the cockpit refrigerator running and I was going to do some homework. I cant actually get to the boat and didn't want to waste anyone's time.. Just collecting information. Once it is up here I will definitely come back. Thanks!
And I agree, the customer service people at Sea Ray have been very helpful so far.
