Official Cummins QSC-500 Thread

ok so thats not me so I am guessing I need this "Y" harness then?

Went to SBMar forum to research and found this... It is exactly how I wired mine. He also ended up having a bad unit (no data being sent to his displays) so i am thinking I was lucky enough to get one also...LOL :mad::mad::mad::(:(:(

So had something weird happen last night. Went for a sunset cruise, out for 2 hours came back to the dock and the port motor would not shut off from the switch??? If I tapped it you could hear the starter try to engage but the "off" position would not shut the engine down. Went into the engine room and had to pop the breaker on the panel to shut it off. Any ideas? I am headed back to the boat today to pay with this. All I have added recently was the NEMA 2000 vessel view module to feed data to the MFD's but worked fine last outing.
This was posted on the Sea Board Marine forum about your very same issue.

Perhaps there is an issue with the gateway. I just installed one myself and have not had that problem but I am having strange indication issues that come and go now on the smart crap display:mad:

This weekend I'm planning to flush the raw water side on my QSC 8.3 HO engines. If I drain the muffler, does anyone know the water capacity of the raw water side? I'd like to have the appropriate amount of Barnacle Buster ready to draw in. Thanks

Have you had your aftercoolers off and apart recently? The recommendation is to do this every other year in salt water, certainly no more than three years. There is info on sbmar.com about how and why to do this.

The only other part of the system that scales up is the gear oil/fuel cooler, and as part of the aftercooler removal its extremely easy to see if that is clogged up. The heat exchanger has little to no standing water in it after shutdown.

If you do those things a flush with barnacle buster should be unnecessary.

I had the complete cooling service done 3 years ago. Engine temps remain steady at about 170 degrees but felt Barnacle Buster couldn’t hurt.

Ok got my vessel view module back from the supplier that sends the NEMA 2000 data to the MFD's so i can see it on them. I read somewhere how on our boats you have to find gas tank 3 to get it to display the tank level on both tanks. I can't find the thread that shows how to fix that issue. I swear I read about it but can't seem to find the topic. Can someone point me int the right direction as I don't want to have "3" tanks on the display. How do i get tank 3 to read as tank 2?

I just did that, in boat information you select three tanks then when you edit the data screen and delete tank two.
Good luck

Ok let me play with it again. I didn’t see the delete function when playing with edit. Thanks...

I never saw the delete function either. Mine sets up with tank 1 (Stbd Fuel) Tank 2 (Stbd oil) Tank 3 (Port Fuel), Tank 4 (Port Oil). Fuel capacity 166.5 Gals each.

OCGRANT what was the part number of that final cable you got which solved your issue?? I have intermittent diesel view and gauge activity/readings I'm trying to solve...

I will have to check as it has a p/n on the unitl that is different than what was on the box. This was the p/n on the retail box Part # 8M0151748 but it was different than the on on the module. I was told by Mercury that was normal..LOL

OC grant- curious if you got your smartcraft and gauges functioning? Any updates and resolutions to share ?

Also has anyone replaced their ECM module on engine and if so what were your symptoms?

No still having issues with data and gauges dropping out on port side. Spoke to Mercury support and they stated they have been having some software issues with the newest modules. They told me to order the “Y” harness and connect to each hub. I got it and plugged it in it is working but... need a few trips from the dock to verify this is fixed. Used to act up after a few drive cycles. Let’s see... my fingers are crossed.

Figured it out on how to delete but is there a way to rename? Now it is displaying tank 1 & tank 3

Great Question OC, I bought a PC gateway to use to attempt just that but just have not found my self in the right mood to mess with it lately. If I find out how I'll post my results. I have not been able to get the fuel total remaining function to work either on the MFD. It was one reason I dug deep a few weeks ago and topped off as I understood you need to start from full tanks. Still scratching my head on that. Ill top again and keep grinding.

This sounds like a great opportunity for someone to come up with a business to replace all this smartcrap stuff and E-120 Raymarine BS with stuff that works...
