Official Searay 200 Thread

Hey Congrats on the boat! I have the exact same though it's a 95. I replaced all the lights in the dash with LEDs and they came out great. The easiest way to access them is inside the cuddy, right behind where the dash would be are 3 screws (I believe, may be 2). Take the panel off. The connections corrode overtime and a bit of high-grit sandpaper to the tips are likely all ya' need. You'll want to do this whether you replace the bulbs or not. You'll see the brass and know what I mean once inside.

What you need are 194 LED bulbs. They can be purchased in all flavors and colors. Here's what I got:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0714DTL8Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'd have to grab a pic but trust me, they're not too bright, these happen to be blue, and they look great!

Hope that helps your first question!
And where were my manners... thank you so much for the awesome help and info! So appreciated!

Thanks chip!!! This is super helpful! I just called a guy and he’s estimating one for $600-1000 to be made. But that’s with bells and whistles. I’ll ask him about sides. That’s a really good idea! I plan on staying on boat time, so that gives extra protection of weather.
I appreciate the help! I think I’m
Gonna like this website as I start this adventure!!
The framing and bimini top for my boat cost ~$1100, so it sounds like your pricing is about right. You can see my bimini top/framing in the attached picture. The front (clear), sides (clear), and back (canvas) prices ranged from $2000 to $3000 (total) to give you an idea of cost. I'm using Strataglass so my cost is toward the upper end of the range. Using Eisenglass would put you at the lower end of the range.

Chip!!! That manual is golden!
Just saw the boat has a cooler? I’m learning so much. Lol. Appreciate the pdf of this!
Sea Ray has very good resources online. The parts manual for your particular boat is at https://s3.amazonaws.com/srweb-pvt-...rts-manuals/1994__1994-200-OVERNIGHTER-IO.pdf . The spec sheet is at https://owners-resources.searayweb.com/model-archive-files/1C1_27_74DERNQPR754.pdf . The prop chart is at https://owners-resources.searayweb..../1994 Sport Boat Sport Cruiser Prop Chart.pdf . Have fun!

Thanks for that! Wow!!!
I have the manual in boat, but. I’ve to have a digital version to access!

I’m going to need a prop too. So that is very useful! Any recommendations for a good one? Thinking I’ll go stainless steel versus the coated black version. Thoughts?
And I think we are going to be new best friends.

Gorg boat chip!!! Classic and love those colors! The top for sure makes all the difference. Didn’t realize how pricey they can get! Whew! But need to spend more for quality is my concept. Less frustrating to replace and honestly in long run you pay more with cheaper stuff.

I’ll run this by the guy who is making one for me. He said 3-4 days to get too. That surprised me so quick.

I'm running a 14.5 x 19 Michigan Wheel aluminum prop. I tried a 14 x 19 stainless steel prop but the 14.5 x 19 aluminum prop was actually slightly faster. We have different engines, though, so the best prop might be different for your boat.

it gives me a good place to start though, which is good!

I ordered the Bimini yesterday. Got one for $750, stainless steel, sunbrella material to match the Original burgundy cover. He will install too!
He’s going to replace all the old gripper buttons throughout the boat including the tie backs. Charging me $100 for that. But well worth it if you ask me!
He restores the wax on the outside too. $250 for that. Custom fit boat cover for
storage is next. money adds up
to het boat in good order.

I ordered dash lights (per previous post help) yesterday and will attempt to fix those.

took some picks while on the water yesterday
It was 109 degrees here in California. Thank goodness for the boat!

Nice looking boat. Always nice when someone treats an old boat well. Have fun!

This past season I was having a little bit of water get into my cabin. It would come in at the bow and run down toward the stern. I took the bow light off and found that the sealant was brittle and cracked. Underneath the bow light is a hole about 3/4 inch in diameter that goes into the cabin (the wires for the bow light come up through the hole). I put my finger down the hole and felt wet carpet on the ceiling of my cabin. The water was definitely getting under the bow light and coming into the cabin through the hole.

Last weekend I resealed the bow light with 3M 4000UV sealant. Today I went to the boat and the cabin carpet was completely dry. If anyone is having trouble with water getting into their cabin, check the bow light. The water is most likely getting in there.

That's pretty awesome. What Brand anchor system is that? Is it automatic?

Anyone know what the performance (cruising speed and top speed) of a 200 OV OB is with a 115 hp engine? Hopefully my current engine will last forever, but if it doesn't Mercury is now only making a 115 hp and 150 hp outboard. My wife thinks the 150 hp four stroke would be too heavy for our boat (50 lbs. heavier than our current two stroke). I'm afraid the 115 hp four stroke wouldn't have enough power. (The boating season is over, but I can at least think about boating :p )

Here is my best guess for what the cruising speed would be with a 115 hp four stroke outboard.

The 1993 Sea Ray 200 OV OB standard engine was a 115 hp two stroke engine with a 2.07 gear ratio and a 13 x 19 aluminum propeller. The current 115 hp four stroke engine can be purchased with a 2.07 gear ratio. WOT is 5500 rpm.

My boat currently has a 150 hp two stroke engine with a 2.00 gear ratio and a 14.5 x 19 aluminum propeller. WOT is 5500 rpm. The cruising speed at 4000 rpm is 32 mph.

Using a cruising rpm of 4000 rpm and accounting for the change in gear ratio and propeller, I estimate my cruising speed with a 115 hp four stroke engine, 2.07 gear ratio, and 13 x 19 aluminum propeller would be 27.7 mph. The math I used is:

(2.0/2.07) x (13/14.5) x 32 = 27.7

27 mph seems about right. The 115 hp four stroke only burns 4.8 gph at 4000 rpm, which would result in a range of 180 miles with my boats 32 gallon gas tank ((32/4.8) x 27). The 115 hp four stroke would give me a 60% increase compared to my current range of 113 miles ((32/9) x 32).

If these estimates are correct, I would be ok switching to a 115 hp four stroke engine. It would be slightly slower, but have more range. That's a trade-off I could live with.

Hi there, I am new to the forum and I just found this thread. I just purchased my first Sea Ray, a 1992 200 in great shape. I snapped this picture just before I put the cover on.

Bought my first boat last month. 2004 Sea Ray 200 Select. Only had 83 hours. Going to do some upgrades (stereo, LED lighting, second battery). Been out a few times but our lake level is so low, it's 5mph for the whole lake. :( Will be heading to other lakes soon!

beautiful boat! 83 hours on new motor or original motor? I have a 2005 200 sport 4.3MPI and LOVE it, it handles so nice in the water, smooth ride! You will enjoy it!

Yes, 83 hours on the original motor. Seller had just completed major service in October and I had an inspection done. Compression good on all 8 cylinders, no fluid leaks. Only issue was fuel gauge not working. I traced it to a bad fuel sender, and replaced myself. And replaced the trailer tires; they were also original. Date code showed they were made in 2003!

This year I put the name on the transom. One of the perks when we bought this boat in October 2019 was that it had never been named. Kind of unusual for a 26 year old boat.

We purchased the lettering from signs.com. I was a little nervous putting it on, but it came out perfect using the squeegee they supplied.

Hello all,

Just purchased a 1993 Overnighter 200 as my first boat. The engine had 360 hours on it and it is in excellent shape from one prior owner. Excited to get out on the water.

Welcome to Club Sea Ray. You'll find the boat handles waves very well but is a little tippy from side to side. It's a trade off I'm more than happy to accept.

When I bought my boat I was getting water in the cabin from the bow light. I resealed the bow light using 3M 4000 UV and the leak stopped.

Good luck with your "new" boat.
