Was heading out for my annual trip to the San Juans. I just finished topping off the fuel tanks and was waiting my turn at the Ballard Locks. I noticed that my port shifter felt odd, it was really difficult to shift in/out of gear, like something was binding up. This happened 2-3 times while I was waiting. The last time, I had shifted into gear, and when I tried taking it out of gear, something snapped and I no longer had the ability to take it out of gear. And of course, I was heading straight for the lock waiting wall. I shut down the port motor and managed to save it from hitting the wall by about 2 feet. Yikes.

I limped back to a dock and opened up the shifter cover and found that one of the tabs that the shift cable connects to had snapped off (gold colored tab in my pic). I noticed that there was a tab connected to the shift lever (black colored tab in my pic), so I moved the cable over to that one and everything worked as a temp fix, and I went on with my trip.

I'm now looking for a replacement. I think it's a Morse shifter (separate from the throttle), but so far I'm not able to find a source for replacement parts, so thought I would ask the experts here (I searched threads but didn't find anything).

Helm view, with the shifter on the left of the wheel:

This is the part that snapped, you can see the jagged edge of the part is separated from:

Location of where it snapped, along with the black tab that I moved the shifter cable over to:

Thanks,

I've got a line on a replacement shifter, unfortunately I'll have to replace the entire thing as they don't sell the parts for them. It looks pretty straight forward of a job, but I'm going to also replace the cables at the same time since they are likely OEM and getting a bit stiff. I've never done that, so wondering if there are any tips/tricks I need to know about.

This is my replacement shifter: http://www.seastarsolutions.com/pro...s/mechanical-single-action/ch-5600-top-mount/

And this is one of the cables I'm looking at using as the replacement: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/u-flex-machzero-premium-universal-control-cables

That cable doesn't appear to have any of the connecting parts to attach to either end, so I assume I will need to find that. Are those typically crimped on to the cable ends after cutting them to length? Anyone have any different/better cable alternatives?
