Does anyone have a particular oil pump that works well with the 8.1s? I purchased the Moeller 7qt pump that has garden hose attachment and a variety of tubes that go down dip stick. It works great on the Genny although is painfully slow getting the hot oil out of the 8.1s to a point and then just stops. I also borrowed a friends homemade electric pump on a 5 gal bucket with both attachments and his did not work either. Only thing that works for me is a manual hand pump that is not very fun.....Thanks and Happy New Year!

Jabsco, came with fitting that screws on to dip stick tube. worked likes a charm, dosen't take long at all.
it is rebuildable also. my opinion its top of the line.

We use a Shurflo pump, works well, the extraction tube is a snug fit right down the dip stick. The pump can run dry and it won’t hurt it. Yes it does take a little run time to get that last quart extracted out of those 8.1s. Just make sure the oil is hot/thin and the extraction tube is in the sweet spot. Also have a funnel and a jug to place the used oil in - makes it easy to walk off the dock.

I use the 12V kind you can get at West Marine. It does take a while. I'd say it's 25-30 minutes per engine with hot oil. I use that time to do other things...

I like the harbor freight route, low cost impeller pump with hose fittings.. just finished its second year for oil / trans (x2) plus genny - and still doing great. Pour a tiny bit of oil into it first, to lube the impeller before you first run - given it takes 30-45 seconds of “dry run” to get the oil flowing..

Read this real quick, as we mention the garden hose attaching directly to the dip stick:

Thanks ....Will give it a shot
The reverso oil change system looks great , just can't justify the cost for an oil change

Be sure to warm up the engine before pumping the oil out. The pumps make quick work of sucking the oil out IF the oil is hot.

It sounds like you're sticking a little tube down the dipstick tube. If so, that's more likely the issue than anything else. Just attach to the dipstick tube, itself and use that. By sticking a little tube down the dipstick tube, all you're doing is using a smaller straw for that milkshake.

If you're already using the dipstick tube and the oil is warm, then the suckers you have been using are either no good or worn out.

If you really want to spend some time reading about this topic, though, just do a few searches - there are many, MANY previous threads about oil suckers.

For me, warming the engines up to temp wasnt enough. Its almost if the bottom of the oil pan still had cold oil. Maybe run the engines a bit more to help ensure all the oil is warmed up, or change the oil after a quick run out on the water.

This is in addition to attaching the hose directly to the dip stick.

I use one similar to this one from Amazon. It's very quick (less than 5 minutes) to drain the 8.1's oil, quiet, and doesn't need to be hooked up to anything. I made a garden hose type fitting for the dipstick end so just screw it on, pump it about 10-12 times and the hot oil just drains into the unit. Easy. Once done just disconnect the fitting then tip the unit to drain the old hot oil into an old empty oil bucket. You're now ready to do the same to the remaining engine. Been using the same unit for over 15yrs!
