Been a few months since my last newbie question.
All Boat systems have been running ok since may 15th splash day..have put on 30hrs running at diff throttle positions.
Untill a week or so ago..after a couple hrs
Towing a tube with my son and grandsons around ..1200 to 3500 rpm..all good..oil pres.
Engine temp..etc.
Once back at our dock, I was checking engine compartment..there is a couple inches of water...not unexpected after 3hrs of 4 boys 12 and under in and out of lake sloping wet.
But the oil floating on top of the bilge water is definatly an issue..
My Gear lube level has been stable ( merc gear oil is blue color) engine oil level is a wee bit on high side...maybe 1/4 inch over full on stick prestart when cold...still at same level when hot..but it has been stable( oil in engine is a light brown in color..clean..no milkiness) I have not added any oil to motor this season. The oil floating in bilge is also light brown in color.
Ive run a camera under engine to see if it picks up any drips..but notta..nothing..but if I clean and dry thr bilge with shop vac, degrease and wipe up all oil then run engine for 1 - 2hrs...there are now always a few drops oil under engine ...mostly on port side of engine.
The question is what could be leaking?
Local marina owner thinks possible rear engine seal..But wouldnt that put the oil leak in center rear area under engine?
It is not causing any mechanical issues...so far...but it is bugging the heck out of me and I need to figure out the source.
Also what is the stated wot rpm for my boat engine combo? Max rpm I can get is 4200
28kts
3200 rpm is 20kts
