I had an impeller come apart on my gen set last year. I just bought the boat and didn't was going through all maintenance when the generator quit running. I have replaced the impeller but don't know how far I have to take off hoses etc downstream to clean out the old pieces. I did take off the hose after the pump but did not find any pieces. Does anyone know where the pieces collect or is it possible they flush through? Is there a clean out location for this type of issue? Thanks.

I believe that the water pump discharge goes around to the heat exchanger which is on the back side. You can remove the heat exchanger inlet hose and then start the genny and use the water to flush out the pieces of the impellers. This is what my mechanic did when I first got my 420 and I watched the whole thing.

Broken off Impellwe blades are almost always in the inlet end of the heat exchanger between the end cap and the tube bundle.

When do you quit looking? Easy.......when you find and remove all the pieces of broken blades.

Thanks for the responses. I first pulled the coolant hose coming out of the pump into the heat exchanger and there was nothing in there. I got the end cap off the heat exchanger (it is darn difficult to access the heat exchanger) and found a few parts of the impeller but not much. I suppose I should try to pull the heat exchanger and shake it out but have to find someone smaller than me or pull the exhaust tube. Any further thoughts? What if there are no parts in the heat exchanger? There are four hoses that go in and out the heat exchanger. I would imagine there is one raw water in and one out as well as engine coolant in and out. Do you know which one is which? I attached sheets from the parts catalogue as well as some pics. I labeled the three lines A, B, and C if you can identify which is which. If I don't find any parts in the heat exchanger should I keep looking?
