Option to exclude forum(s)

Heavy Thinking .......

Sometimes you are encouraged about our country's future when you see something like this.
Specifically, there is an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was

"Political Correctness."

The winner wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

(This guy has nailed it.)

This is great! I was watching the local news last night, and heard the anchor refer to a homeless man as "Residentially Challenged"

When you start kicking in some pesos to help defer the cost of the board you can start bitching about it's format. Don't like it ...via...

I'm kind of surprised about some of the attitudes here lately. I'm not trying to be a Kevin-defender but he asked a legit question. We know we can ignore members -- but can we ignore an entire forum so these posts don't show in the New Posts - 24/48 Hours. Why do you need to kick in some pesos to make a suggestion?

...But even I have figured out that if you don't click on Holding Tank and Tiki Bar you don't have to read that stuff. Try it it works.

It would be easier though to have these excluded in the first place.

He's just asking a question or making a suggestion. He's not passing judgment on anyone or the content of a forum.

Kevin,

This is the "problem" with the right to free speech. Like Jack said, some people "...can't handle the truth", and find it offensive. The right to free speech is intended to protect "controversial" or "offensive" speech, and came about as a way to prevent our government from disallowing speech that goes against its position. The king tried to supress certain types of speech during colonial times, and our founding fathers knew that our government needed to be prevented from doing the same thing.

That being said, you need to ignore anything that you find offensive and just get on with your life. We can't (and won't) stop people from voicing their opinion.

As an FYI, I find nearly all of your pro-Obama posts to be highly offensive. I read them anyway. In a loose way, I translate them as "we in the UK, as well as most of the rest of the world are totally f^%$#d up. I hope that Obama succeeds in f^%$ing you guys up, too." . That certainly doesn't come across as "friendly" to me.

I hope this sheds some light on why folks are being so hard on you.

Michael

thank you michael. it's a fact that you find my support for the president of the US offensive. but i understand totally how that feels: there have been a number of prime ministers in the UK whose policies i found equally abhorrent.

you and i disagree, but i appreciate the environment that allows this exchange of opinions.

my only problem with the responses i often get to my stated beliefs, suggestions or questions is that some are mindless, kneejerk, ignorant positioning: written to impress their buddies, like kids in school.

i greatly appreciate your reasoned, learned comments above.

I don't think that any of the responses that you have received are like that. Haven't you considered the possibility that we have researched our "opposition", formulated our position, and written it down simply because we believe in that position? I am certain that you consider some (if not all ) of my comments and opinions to be in that category. If that is the case, then exactly what do I have to do to NOT be a mindless, kneejerking, ignoramus? Say "oh... I'm sorry. The other side is just so much smarter, more thoughtful, and kinder than I am that I just better keep my opinion to myself."? Agree with a government and a party trying to steal the wealth and freedom from our future generations, or take a stand to protect them even if it means going against the "popular" position. No choice there. I'll stand up and fight whoever and whatever I have to in order to save this country regardless if it is an internal or external enemy.

America became a great country because it was based on conservative, judeo christian values, by people who witnessed first hand the mistakes made by the various other countries of the world and vowed to create a better way. They wrote a Constitution that defines the specific duties of the government, as well as defining what the government can not do. Everything else was left to the State governments. Even if government run health care is a good thing, the Constitution states that those "other duties" should be left to the States. So, we should have 57 (Obama joke) different health care systems run by each state, not one run by the federal government. Over the years, the liberals have used the legal system to "read between the lines", and grant power to the government that it does not have under the actual wording of the Constitution. As an American, the Constitution defines who I (and we) are. That definition is being stolen, distorted, and mutilated by the leftists. As such, I and my family are under attack. We play a different game than the rest of the world. We believe in "tough love", you don't want to work, fine. Just understand that you will starve to death. You want to work but can't, we'll be happy to help until you get back on your feet again, but no longer. Greatness comes from great people working hard, being responsible, and making tough choices. Our government is taking the possibility of greatness away by removing the environment that allows it to thrive. They are trying to make not working, being irresponsible, and removing all choices by deciding everything for us the new "normal". These things do not work, so therefore we will cease to exist as a great country.

I will stand up an defend that position until the day that I die. You may think that there is no thought behind it, but you are incorrect, sir. I have thought these things through. I understand my position, and I will not waiver. No knee jerking here. These are the facts as I see them.

None of these arguments are said with any malice towards any other group of people (except the French, I hate those guys. Can someone remind me again why we saved their asses?). Accusing people like me as being racists (thanks Jimmy... you boob) or haters is just a big diversion to draw attention from the fat that the Constitution has been thrown out the window. Don't fall for it.

When we get government run public pubs, fly on over. I'd love to discuss this with you further over a beer (just fill in the damn paperwork on the way in or I'll personally drive your butt to the ocean and make you swim out of here by shotgun). :smt043

Move the political crap to the Tiki Bar, please.

My apologies for getting back on topic.....is it possible to ignore an entire forum? I'm not sure if it was specifically answered.

EDIT: I just realized that this is in the Holding Tank...my bad. Either way, does every thread need to turn political? I can tell boating season is drawing to an end up north.

but i was agreeing with you? didnt you read what i said? i was sincere in my appreciation of your learned and considerered responses.

and you're certianly not who i was referring to in my comments about impressing the other kids in class - just read back through this thread and you will see clearly who i am referring to.

PLEASE READ MY POSTS BEFORE RESPONDING

I was actually defending the others. I quoted the part of your response that I was responding to, "my only problem with the responses i often get to my stated beliefs, suggestions or questions ". I took this to mean things that you have stated in other threads as well as this one.

I just don't believe that anyone's arguments should be treated as "mindless, kneejerking, or ignorant". If there are specific points that people (anyone, not you in particular) don't agree with, then they should have a point by point discussion of the facts. All too often, people get upset because people disagree with them and then they start making dismissive statements about the person and their opinions without actually talking about the points that they do not agree with. The other "out" often taken is the "let's just not discuss politiccs". Well, I don't agree with that either because it leaves only the career politicians to do the talking, and that always leads to trouble.

I did take it a little further by explaining how some of us came to those conclusions that I thought you were referring to as mindless or kneejerking (I was not your interaction with Frank in this thread, but about things like health care and such in the other threads that you have posted in - I understood that the writing for the other kids in class part was directed at an individual, though) .

Bottom line, I agree that we agreed, I appreciate your appreciation, and we are friends (unless you are from France). Haha...

I enjoy discussing the issues with you even if we do not agree on the specifics.

Michael

I suggest you post more threads about boating, and less about trivial things. If you select the forum you wish to visit ( Sport Cruisers in your case for example) you could skip the non-boating threads all together. Just how I would do it, in case titles offend you. Personally, I look at the title and the forum in which it is located on the new posts listing. Then I decide to enter or not.
