I just finished this one of a kind oyster knife, made for a customer. It will have his name engraved in the handle between the pins. The star pin I made using brass tubing and copper wire filled with epoxy.

The handles are both epoxied and pinned. Epoxy keeps bio fluids from getting between the handle and blade. Handle material is resin based micarta.
The blade is 440 SS with a brass bolster and a brushed finish.
The top swage and lower edge are both sharp so cutting the top and bottom muscle can be done without flipping the knife over.
Custom made sheath is in the works.

Impressive! What a great gift...made so by the fact that you actually made the knife!

This is great! How much. Every 6-8 weeks or so, my friends and family grill up about 900 oysters on a custom made stainless grill we do for a fundraiser.
Our teams names is the Oly Angels on Facebook and we just did 900 yesterday, benefitting Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. I'm the schucker in yellow.

Todd, I'm actually having the design tested by a few shuckers down in SC. As soon as we talk with them about any mods I need to make I'll PM you. She's a good heavy girl and made to play.
The big cut out on the bottom edge allows for getting down inside the oyster bottom shell.

Love the grill too, one hole for each oyster, great heat concentration.

Ok, let me know if you need a second opinion on Pacific oysters? The shells here are much thicker and tougher than the southern varieties. I'm a schuckin' fool!

Bill,

that shucker is amazing! I'm getting sweaty palms just looking at it after you said she had some nice weight to it. She really is beautiful, you do excellent work!

The site shows styles of Knives I've made for customers. The shucker will be near the same but I'll do some design changes to make it personal. If you want a different handle style or material then we need to talk.

Use the customer contact tab and let me know what you are thinking and leave your contact info. I will work with you on style and price. This is a hobby for me and I'm not interested in doing stamped copies so one of a kind or close variations are what I'm about.

The blade is nearly 1/4 thick back through the handle. It's good and wide at the guard then a slight fuller in the center blade flat for strength. The tip is double edged and the tip spine between the upper and lower edge adds rigidity.

My knives are not desk jockeys of mantel pieces. They are working girls. LOL

It's only second to bone and antler. (Smells like burnt hair.) I wear a breather when working resin and bio material. Spalted maple is nasty stuff too.

I finished the simple oyster knife sheath today. It fits like a glove.
I attached some pics of another little project that I've been tinkering with. IMG_0040.jpgIMG_0041.jpgIMG_0441.jpgIMG_0435.jpgIMG_0432.jpg
