Painting dashboard

Where was this topcoat purchased? I want to do mine in white. Thanks

Be careful painting a boat dash white or any light color. The glare on the windshield will obstruct your vision. Before you go to all that work try putting some white paper on the dash and see how it reflects on the windshield.

I will only use it on the lower portion where the instrument panel is, around the trim tabs switch, spotlight, etc.

Our '88 340ec has a fairly tight angle between the dash and windshield. We would really like to paint the dash, but are leery of removing the windshield. Does anyone have a suggestion on getting into that area to mask, paint, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you can't get in there with your fingers & tape, then use a masking board. This could be as simple as a piece of heavy paper or oak tag.

A my last boat I replaced the dash with laminate counter topping. Wide choice of colors and non reflective top. Cut poster board to fit and used pattern to cut laminate, then glued it down. There are pieces of trim for edges and corners.

You need to remove the windshield to do a proper job. The frame is secured with screws and the removal is pretty straightforward. You do need room to work and store things. But it is worth the effort. Once you get the dashboard painted, recovering the dash in a complimentary color makes the helm look like new. Might as well do the breaker switches and plastic panel while you are at it.

I used Topcoat worked out pretty good, battleship grey was the colour I used. I rolled and cut the top side and dash. Prep was time consuming but I’m happy with the outcome.

Cheers Rob
