Heading to the island Tuesday. Has anyone here stayed at Park Place Boat Club? If so, how was it? Is the water in the Marina deep?

Thanks

They did a great job with the new docks. Deep water and sturdy infrastructure. Nicest bathroom facilities on the Great Lakes. Very narrow fairway though.

Yes, we stayed there last week in June. As RC said, plus very accommodating staff, restaurant on premises, tiki bar, $1.75/ foot

Make sure you ask for the 20 bucks in restaurant dollars. They have a midweek special. Both The Keys and the Boardwalk you can use the credit. We have had good food and service this summer

Stayed at Park Place from 12AUG14 – 15AUG14, The Marina is very nice (Bathrooms especially) however there is little to no protection from the lake. We were there from 12AUG14 to 15AUG14 with a 15-20 mph wind NNW that did not lay down the entire stay. I have never been bounced around so much. Friends we went with lost 3 lines (break) and on another peer the piling had been ripped off. I had a hunch we were in trouble when the dock hand brought out big Orange Bumper balls to aid in fending off the boats at no charge! Had an average of 4 to 4 ½ hours of sleep a night, Best guess the beers started to wear off, then the rocking of the boat brought us back to life. If you are going to stay there watch the weather (Wind speed and direction).

I'm sorry to hear about conditions during your stay. The 35 Cruisers that pulled the upright off the pier is a good friend of mine and a very loyal PPBC member. They had a miserable week and vowed to never be there again during strong NW'ers. They were really lucky that his wife was in the cockpit when it happened. She was able to hold the boat to the pier long enough for a passerby to secure another line.

I'm still confused about why it was so rough with NNW'ers. During construction we were all concerned about protection from the NE, but assumed other directions would be fine.

We were down there with rumrunner and have to agree. it was miserable trying to get to sleep. definately won't be back to Park Place. Nice staff and accomidations but im still trying to wake up from our lack of sleep.

The harbor master told me that the NW winds caused the waves to bounce of the break wall at Perry's monument and come back into the marina. This caused a wild ride that could only be matched by Ceder Point.

Sorry to hear that your stay there wasn't the best. Obviously it must the location that makes the NW wind is so uncomfortable. Usually a strong Northeasterly will force us out of most of the PIB locations and we go to Middle Bass and ferry back and forth while waiting for a wind change. This has been a tough summer on lake Erie with wind.

Yes, I second Middle bass. Yeah, the marinas are not very protected from any type of northerly winds. Seems that is all we have had this year too. Very strange indeed. I was clear back in the well at Miller's Marina last time I stayed at PIB and even there was rough. I don't mind a little movement but from the sounds of it it was very rough for you guys... Hope you get caught back up on your sleep.

We were there as well and had NNW winds around the 10-13 of Aug. Stayed at Miller's. Even though the weather wasn't the greatest with rain and wind it seemed normal to us being from the eastern side of the lake. We get that all the time in Buffalo so didn't think much of it. Would have loved to have had better winds for sure. Actually we headed out to Middle Bass for the afternoon on the 13th. It was our first time visiting the islands. Absolutely beautiful. You are very lucky to have such different destinations available.
